I absolutely love Briarlight, and I feel horrible for what happened to her. And yet, if she hadn't have had the accident, would she have been the same as she is now? Probably not. I love how she helps Jayfeather when she can and how she never gives up. I hate how Millie treats her, though.
Anyway, we all know what happened to Briarlight if we read Fading Echos; she broke her backbone (spine) and can no longer walk. She was given her warrior name alongside Blossomfall and Bumblestripe, and soon found the drive to do exercises, to strengthen her front legs, to help sort through Jayfeather's herbs.
In the Guide, however, it says that Briarlight received her warrior name after doing her exercises and helping Jayfeather, that she became the cat we love before getting her name. However, she got her name not long after the accident, and became more confident after that.
