Clover's POV:

"How are you feeling sweetheart?" Will asked me curiously as we cuddled on the couch a bit. We were waiting for Oliver to get dressed, so we could go to my uncle's viewing. "I'm okay. A little nervous, but I'm okay." I replied with a forced half smile. He tucked a strand of my hair behind my ear and placed his hand on the side of my face. We just looked into each other's eyes as he gently stroked my cheek with his thumb. I ended up getting lost in his chocolate brown eyes, but I didn't mind. I love getting lost in his beautiful eyes. "I love you." I said softly, and a smile spread across his handsome face. "I love you too." He said softly as well, before he leaned forward and kissed my lips. I kissed him back, and for a brief moment all of my worries melted away. He played with my hair and we just got lost in each other's eyes after we broke the kiss. "Alright, I'm ready." Oliver's voice said, bringing Will and I back to reality. I looked over the back of the couch, and seen Oliver standing there wearing a nice gray buttoned t-shirt and a pair of black jeans. "Are you all ready to go?" Will asked me curiously. I said yes, and we locked up the apartment before getting into my car. It was strange going to a funeral for someone that should have been closer to me than he really was. The last funeral I went to was my father's, and that felt like an eternity ago. The car ride was drowning in silence, but I was okay with it. The silence actually felt comforting for once. After a while we eventually reached the funeral home and I parked my car quite close to the front doors. I wanted to he there early, so I could greet everyone who came to pay their respects. I shut the car off and we all got out of the vehicle. I talked to the undertaker for a few minutes before we took our spot next to the casket. We sat down in the chairs that were there, and Will wrapped his arm around my shoulder. "I wish I could come to the evening viewing, but I know I can't." Will said as he gently rubbed my back. "It's okay, I'll be here to comfort and support her tonight." Oliver said with a sympathetic look in his eyes. Will didn't wanna come to the evening viewing, because that's when Max said he was gonna show up. Oliver and I agreed that Max didn't need to know about Will quite yet, even though we agreed that we'd have to tell Max everything eventually. But only if Max is on our side, and not just pretending so he can hurt us. We've been hurt enough; It's time we start making moves to ensure a better life for all of us. "You're so sweet, Will." I said before I kissed his cheek. A few minutes went by before my brother, Alex came in and gave all of us hugs. We made small talk as we waited for people to come in and pay their respects. Before I knew it the place was packed with a bunch of professors and scientists. Will seemed like he was on high alert, and I didn't blame him. If my uncle was friends with Max Waters, who knows who else he was friends with. I placed my hand on the center of Will's back and rubbed gently where my hand was laying. He glanced over at me and gave me a small smile before kissing my cheek. During the entire viewing I was hugging people and shaking people's hands. I desperately hoped I didn't get sick after all of this. I made a mental note to wash my hands more frequently than I usually do to make sure I didn't catch a cold or something. Most of them I knew vaguely, but others were complete strangers. Before I knew it, it was over. I didn't mind though; I was actually kind of relived that it was over. I knew I had to go through all of this again later today, but Will wouldn't he with me the next time. 'You'll be fine, Clover. Oliver and Alex will be there.' I said inside of my head. "Do you guys wanna grab a bite to eat? It is lunch time after all." Alex said as we exited the funeral home. "Sure, I'm starving." Oliver said, and we agreed. After we got into our vehicles we headed to Freddy's Diner and grabbed a bite to eat. "Are Jessica and Liv coming to the viewing tonight?" Alex asked me curiously as we ate the food we had ordered. "Yeah, they both had to go to work this morning." I replied before I took a drink of my coffee. After we finished eating Alex and Oliver went to the bathroom, leaving Will and I alone. "I'm really sorry I can't come to the evening viewing." He said as he wrapped an arm around me. "It's okay, I know that you don't want Max to see you. Especially since we don't know his true intentions yet." I replied as I placed my hand on his chest. He gently kissed my temple, which made me smile and I snuggled into his side. "I love you, Clover." He said as he kissed the top of my head. "I love you too, Will." I replied happily. Alex and Oliver came back and we talked for a little while longer before we paid for our meals. We ended up going to our apartment to relax a bit before we had to go back to the funeral home. I went into the living room while Oliver and Alex hung out in the kitchen. They were talking about music along with a bunch of other stuff. Will went to change his clothes, and he came back looking cuter than ever. He was wearing an oversized gray sweater and a pair of black sweatpants. "Come here." I said, and a smile spread across his handsome face. He ran a hand through his hair before he sat down next to me. We cuddled up to each other and watched a couple of episodes of Parks and Recreation. After a while, Oliver and my brother came into the room. "Aww. Look at how cute these two are." Oliver said as he took a seat. Will smiled and nuzzled his head into the crook of my neck, which made me giggle slightly. "I'm just glad that you met a guy that's sweet and loving towards you, Clover. If I met your ex, I probably would have killed him. Hell, I'd still kick his ass if I run into him on the street. You didn't deserve to be treated the way he treated you." Alex said, and my heart warmed. "Alex, he isn't worth going to jail over. He'll probably get arrested himself if he keeps hanging around the people he calls his friends." I replied. 'Derek's druggie friends are probably half the reason why he turned into such an ass in the first place.' I said inside of my head. But I was glad that he and I broke up, because if we hadn't then I might have never gotten the pleasure of meeting Will. After a while of talking and joking around, it was time for us to head back to the funeral home. "Be careful you guys." Will said as we said our goodbyes. "We will." Oliver replied. Will wrapped his arms around me and sweetly kissed my lips; I kissed and hugged him back before I joined Oliver in his car. My heart hurt knowing that my wonderful boyfriend had to stay home alone, but I knew it was for the best. Some people just didn't need to know of his existence yet. I pressed my thoughts to the back of my mind as we drove in silence. "You know... I never told you this, Clover... but I really do think you and Will are meant for each other." Oliver said, breaking the silence. "You do?" I asked him curiously. "Yeah, I do. Even when he was trying to get over his ex wife, he always looked at you with love filled eyes." He said, and I didn't know what to say. I was shocked. 'Maybe Will and I really were meant to be together. I did bring him back to life after all.' I said inside of my head. We drove for a little while longer before we reached our destination. Oliver and I met up with Alex before we walked towards the front doors once again. We sat down where we did before and awaited the influx of people. A few minutes went by before anyone came in; Liv and Jessica were the first ones to show up. "Come here." Liv said as she wrapped her arms around me. She was wearing a black v-neck t-shirt and a pair of blue jeans. Jessica was wearing a floral shirt with a pair of black jeans. Once Liv broke the hug, Jessica came over to hug me as well. We made small talk and they asked me questions about my uncle Victor. I answered them the best I could, especially since he and I weren't really that close. But I let out the facts about the possibility that one of his colleagues murdered him. Deep down I felt guilty for keeping secrets about Will and the dangerous stuff we were all involved in, but I didn't wanna drag them into it. They were safer if they remained ignorant of the whole thing. "Where's Will?" Liv asked no one in particular. "He stayed home. He wasn't feeling too well." I replied, but I made sure to let them know he was here with us earlier. I didn't want them to think Will didn't come at all. Suddenly, a flood of people started coming in; I was secretly a little overwhelmed by how many people had come this evening. It was way more packed than this morning. "I need some air. I'm gonna step outside for a few minutes." I said as I stood up. "I'll come with you." Jessica said. "Me too." Liv replied. All three of us walked through the mass of people and stepped out into the cool night air. I breathed in the cold air greedily and let it fill my lungs completely before exhaling. The tree of us talked for a little while before they said their goodbyes. I kind of wanted them to stay a bit longer, but I knew they both had work in the morning. So I stood there alone, gazing up at the clear night sky and admiring how beautiful the stars were. "Clover, I didn't expect to see you out here in the cold all alone." A familiar British accent drifted to my ears. I looked down from the sky to see Max Waters standing in front of me, but he was barely recognizable. His blond hair was long and he had a scraggly beard growing on his face. There were faint marks and scabby spots on his face as well. 'He looks like he has been beaten up.' I said inside of my head, and my stomach filled with worry. "I had to get some air. It's quite stuffy in there with all of the people crowded around." I replied. That's when I realized what he was wearing. He had a long sleeved black t-shirt on along with a pair of ripped and torn blue jeans; both of them looked like they hadn't been washed in weeks... maybe months. "That many people showed up, huh? Well, I guess it shouldn't be a surprise; a lot of people knew and admired him." He replied as he and I walked inside. I agreed as we worked our way through the crowd of people. When Oliver and I made eye contact I gave him the signal to let him know that Max was here. He whispered in Alex's hear like we planned. I was going to take Max to Freddy's Diner in Oliver's car while they trailed behind. None of us trusted Max, but for some reason Will wanted me to hear what Max had to say. Obviously, I was going to do what Will wished of me. There's no way I can say no to that man. I pressed my thoughts to the back of my mind as we walked towards the coffin. I stood there and watched as he stared down at my uncle's lifeless body. "I'm sorry Victor. I'm sorry things had to end this way, but you will be avenged. Mark my word." He said quietly, but not quite enough for me not to hear him. Tears filled his blue eyes, and I started to feel sorry for him. He lost a friend the same day I lost an uncle; I sort of forgot about that, and it made me feel bad. "It's okay. He's in a better place now, even though we'd all wish for him to still be here." I said as I wrapped my arms around him as an attempt at comforting him. He gently hugged me back as he rested his chin on my shoulder and cried full on. After a while of just standing there and holding each other, we finally broke the hug. He wiped his tears away and I lead him over to where Oliver was sitting. I knew that Alex had left, because it was part of the plan. "This is my friend, Oliver." I said introducing them to each other. They shook each other's hands and said their short hellos. Max ended up sitting with us for the rest of the night. When the viewing came to an end, we went our separate ways. Oliver and I said fake goodbyes as he went to join Alex in his car. "Come on, let's go to Freddy's Diner for that coffee we talked about." I said to Max, and he followed me to Oliver's car. Oliver slipped me his keys when we gave each other a hug. "I'm glad you have a car. I had to take an Uber to get here." He said, and I suddenly wondered what had happened to his car. 'Maybe he had to sneak out and taking an Uber was the only option.' I said inside of my head as we got into the car. I got into the driver's seat while he got in on the passenger side. Once we were buckled up I turned on the engine and pulled out of the parking lot. "So, how have you been these past couple of weeks?" I asked him curiously. "Honestly... I haven't been doing well at all." He replied, and told me that he'd tell me why once we got to the diner. That was fine by me, especially since there'd be witnesses at the diner. When we got to Freddy's I parked close to the front doors since there weren't a lot of people there. I shut off the car and we headed inside. We agreed to sit at a booth that was far away from other customers, but we weren't out of view; I made sure almost everyone could see us, especially Oliver and Alex from the parking lot. A man with short brown hair walked up to us and asked us what we wanted to drink. The both of us ordered a coffee, and I offered to buy Max something to eat as well. "No, no, I couldn't ask for you to buy me a meal." He said with slightly furrowed brows. "I insist." I replied. He looked skinny and frail; he almost looked like my brother did the time I lent him some money. "Fine." He said with a defeated sigh. He ended up ordering a large plate of pancakes, bacon, scrambled eggs, and sausage. "What can I get you to eat, Miss?" Our waiter asked me curiously. "Oh, nothing. Coffee is fine." I replied. After our waiter had written everything down, he left to give the cooks our orders. Max and I sat in silence for a few minutes before I spoke up once more. "So, what did you wanna talk to me about?" I asked him curiously. "What I'm about to tell you may shock you. I need you to promise that you won't tell anyone else no matter what." He said with a serious look in his blue eyes. "I promise." I replied seriously, even though it was an outright lie. There was no way I wasn't going to tell Oliver, Alex, and Will what he had to tell me. The waiter came to the table with our drinks, and we thanked him before Max started talking again. "It all started a few years ago." He began. Max told me everything about what happened to Will and his then wife, Evenly. That was stuff I already knew, but I didn't want him to know that. What I wanted to know, was what happened a while after all of that occurred. "Then what happened?" I asked him curiously. "Out of grief and guilt, I went to their old house. Something was drawing me there, and I wasn't quite sure what it was," He said before he took a break to take a bite of his food. "Then I saw the little flower garden that Will had planted. It never grew as long as I can remember, and somehow these beautifully bright sunflowers were there. A voice inside of me told me to take samples of the water, and so I did." He said. The waiter came by to fill our cups with fresh coffee, and all conversation stopped in fear that he might overhear. "What did you find?" I asked him curiously once we were alone again. "The molecular structure was different; it matched the molecular structure of what Will was made of. I thought that maybe I could bring them back somehow, so I started experimenting." He said before he took another break to drink and eat. He told me about all of the lengthy experiments he conducted over the years. Most of which sounded unbelievably dangerous. "Then one day, I accidentally knocked a test tube of the water into a petri dish. I cursed myself, because I knew I ruined someone else's experiment. But then there was a strange chemical reaction that happened. Before my eyes, Evelyn appeared right in front of me. I naturally fainted." He said. He told me how he contacted my uncle in hopes that he would help him, and he did. They recruited a small group of people and called their experiments Project Omneity. My heart was racing from excitement, and the gears in my head were working overtime. I couldn't believe that I was finally getting to know exactly what happened. "At first we tried bringing Will back as well, but we couldn't. A long the way Evelyn and I sort of fell in love and got married." He said after he finished eating his meal. "Don't you ever feel guilty about marrying your best friend's wife?" I asked him curiously with a hint of anger in my tone. "Of course I do, Clover. I felt guilty every day. What made it worse was the fact that Evelyn wasn't guilty; she didn't even remember that she was married. I thought that it was some sort of side effects from being nothing but molecules for such a long time." He replied as he ran a hand through his hair. "That is until... a few weeks ago." He said after a long moment of silence. "What happened that made you change your mind?" I asked him curiously. Now I was nervous about what he was gonna say. Whatever it was, I knew it was gonna be bad. "Victor, your uncle, made some discoveries. He learned that Evelyn had went through some changes. Her brain waves weren't like they were when she first came back, and neither was her molecular make up. Evelyn... wasn't Evenly at all; she's the thing that was in the petri dish.... she's a bacteria. All its purpose is, is to multiply and make copies of itself. She's... she's trying to reach Omneity by cloning herself." He said as tears filled his eyes. He covered his face with his hands as he started sobbing softly. It took a few minutes for him to regain composure, but when he did he continued speaking. "She's the one who killed your uncle. She found out he was leaking secrets to someone on the outside. She even beat me up, because she suspected me as well." He said as he reached a shaky hand towards his coffee cup. 'I was right. Someone did beat him up.' I said inside of my head. I sat there and watched him for any signs of lying, and I found none. He truly looked scared to death and worried as hell. "Why are you telling me all of this?" I asked after he sat his cup down. "Because I need your help. I can't take Evelyn down by myself; I had to sneak out just to got to the viewing and speak with you." He said as he rubbed his eyes. 'Right again, Clover.' My subconscious said. I was suddenly aware of the dark circles that were underneath his blue eyes, and I felt sorry for him. "What lengths are you willing to take to take her down?" I asked him after a moment of silence. "I'd do anything to stop her." He replied as he let out a shaky breath. We sat there for what felt like forever, because I had to make sure he was telling the truth. I had to know that he truly meant to take down Evelyn and her clones. "Max," I said, and he looked up at me with a questioning glance. "I think there's someone you need to meet." I said as I stood up and he followed me as I went to pay for our bill.
