-Chapter 6-

It feels different walking through the school late. The halls are empty, there's no noise and there's definitely no need to watch out for legs sticking out from every direction; trying to trip you.

The walk to school was tiring and by the time I finally did get here I had a trickly of sweat running down the back of my neck from the heat. It didn't help that I only got 5 hours of sleep either. It feels like there's ropes tied to my wrists and ankles, holding my body down.

I hate this time of year, not quite hot but not cold either. The air is humid and feels heavy as you breathe it into your lungs.

I walk straight to PE with my sports bag over one shoulder. If I thought the day was bad enough it had to remind me that I had double sport first and second lesson. Of all days in the week it's the humid one where I got less than the required sleep for a guy my age.

A guy needs his sleep, mostly food, but sleep is an important roll too.

The loudness of the gym reaches my ears before I even push open the door. When I do, it's even louder. The whistle blows, scaring me half to death, and everyone goes quiet. The teacher turns towards me.

"Why are you so late?" He screams, face red and spit flying all around. He reminds me of a human version of a pit bull.

Everyone turns towards me and my face heats up. Why does it keep doing that? As if everyone needs to know about my embarrassment!

"I had to walk." I explain.

"No excuse." He says, "You should have started earlier."

"I'm sorry." I whisper, more for myself to hear than him.

"Go get your sports clothes on." He says, pointing me to the change room.

Without a word I shuffle away and practically fly through the door, trying to calm my heating face. When I remove my hands from my face a boy with messy light brown hair and honey coloured eyes stares back at me, a pearly white smile on his face.

"Hi." He says in a voice that matches his... everything.

"H-Hello." I stutter. Stupid.

He extends his hand between us. "My name's Thorn Calloway."

"That's a different name." I say before I can think, I shake my head at my own stupidness and take his hand in mine, "Sorry, that sounded rude. I'm Snowy."

He raises an eyebrow, "It seems I'm not the only one." We drop hands.

"I guess not." A bang on the door causes me to jump.

He laughs and for a moment I'm completely still. The sound is something that's beautiful and makes you want to stop and listen, I have never heard something as beautiful as it before. I didn't know anything that perfect existed.

When he stops I shake away the feeling and pull open my bag to get changed. Thorn waits behind me and as I peel my shirt off I try my best not to show my embarrassment now. The last thing I need is for someone else to know that I'm gay.

'Cause that went so well last time someone found out.

When I'm finished changing I zip up my bag and follow Thorn out.

Coach stands by the door impatiently. "You two will be partners, versing Haze and Aubrey on court 3."

I follow his fingers to find Haze and a red haired girl called Aubrey behind a volley ball net. Something dark crosses Haze's face when he notices us walk over. He's obviously still angry at me.
