Louis' POV
*more weeks later*
I was lying on my bed, staring up at the ceiling and thinking about Clementine. It was night time now and I had just gotten back from dinner with everyone. I thought back to when I sat next to her a few weeks back.
I plopped my bowl down next to Clem's and sat down on the bench.
"How are you doing?"
"I'm better now Louis... thanks to you." She looked at me sheepishly and continued, "You really are great to me."
I grinned and felt my stomach flutter as I felt great in the fact that Clem thought I was great, "No need to thank me Clem. I just want to make you happy."
"You want to make me happy?"
Shit. My tongue slipped. I didn't mean to reveal that to her yet.
"Uh- You know, that's what friends are for." I anxiously looked at her, hoping she didn't notice that slip up.
"I didn't know we were...friends?" She scratched her head and looked as if she had never been called that before.
"Of course we are, unless you're not ready for that."
"I am it's just that..."
"Just that you don't consider us friends?"
"No- I- I just didn't know that was what this was." Her face turned slightly pink as she turned away to speak to Violet who was sitting opposite us.
I put one of my hands on the bench next to hers and slowly moved it closer, touching our pinkies and judging her reaction. She didn't seem to notice so I channeled the confidence that surged through my body and placed the entire thing over hers and then I leaned into her, whispering into her ear.
"Were you maybe thinking about something else?" I breathed softly against her ear, readying myself for the attack. "Something like this?" I gently bit down on her ear.
Clementine's entire face turned red as she shot up.
"Uh- Guys, I- Uh have to go talk to Marlon about something." She basically ran away and I laughed and went back to eating my food.
"Damn Louis what did you say to her?" I looked over and saw Violet frowning over at me.
"Did you ask her to fuck or something?" I choked on the food I was currently chewing and started coughing manically. Violet's vulgar and blunt question took me off guard.
"Damn... guess I was right then." She smirked and went to get up.
"Violet that's not what I asked her." I picked up my water cup and drank it to stop myself from coughing.
"Sure Louis. If you say so. Just don't get my best friend pregnant." I spit the water out as she laughed and walked away. Leaving me with horrible fantasies in mind.
I rolled over to my side and looked at my bedroom door sighing. We had gotten closer over the past few weeks and I could genuinely call her my friend now. We knew so many things about each other now and everything was going so great, but I didn't just want to be friends- I wanted to be more.
I sighed loudly. Maybe I should go for a walk to clear my head. I got up and made my way outside to the courtyard and saw Clementine lying down in the middle of the yard on her back, staring up at the night sky.
"Mind if I join you darling?"
She rolled her eyes and smiled, motioning for me to come over. I went and laid next to her. We stayed like that for a few minutes before she broke the silence.
"Do you ever wonder who else out there could be watching the sky the same time that you are?"
I thought about it for a while. I didn't know anyone out there; everyone I cared about now was here.
"Not really." I confessed, "I dont think about anyone else really. There isn't really anyone out there that means something to me. Everyone I love is right here." I turned to look at her beautiful features. She was stunning. Her curly hair framed her face perfectly and all the tiny scars she had only made her more captivating. I watched as her chest rose and fell and looked at her lips that parted at times and seemed to whisper secrets up to the sky.
She turned to her side and faced me.
"There are so many people out there that I think about Louis. People that mean alot to me. People who risked their own lives to take care of me... people who I dont even know are alive or dead-" A tear rolled down her cheek. She paused as she choked on her words and continued.
"Kenny, Christa, Javier." She sighed and took my hand, interwining our fingers. I blushed and held her hand tightly in mine. She moved closer until her head lay on my chest.
"I just wish I could tell them all thank you and make sure they knew how much I appreciated them."
I stroked her hair soothingly as she clutched onto my chest and buried her head deeper into me; as if I was her safety blanket.
"I'm positive that they know Clem."
"I hope they do."
We lay there on the cold, overgrown ground cuddling and staring up at the stars. It seemed like we were there for hours and all I wanted to do was to stay there, holding Clementine in my arms and protecting her from all that she was scared of.
I closed my eyes for a second. Well for what I thought was a second, and woke up to see the sun rising over the horizon. I stared at the beautiful girl laying on my chest and took in every tiny detail about her. The way her luscious eyelashes fluttered as she slept. The way her eyebrows furrowed in worry, as if even in sleep she could not escape the burdens of her life.
She stirred against me and opened her eyes slowly to see me playing in her hair. I looked at the hat that I had taken off her head in the process. I had placed it on the ground next to her and sheepishly smiled. I knew this hat meant a lot to her. She had told me once that Lee had given it to her but she didn't elaborate on who this Lee was. I knew he was probably very important to her since she almost never took it off.
"Sorry for taking it off."
She yawned and raised herself off of me and stretched. I pouted. I loved the feeling of her laying on me and I wanted to do it again soon.
"It's fine. I don't really mind, but my hair looks horrible." She embarrassedly patted her head and put her hat back on to hide it.
I shook my head at her.
"Your hair is beautiful, perfect even. Very fitting for your personality."
"My personality? So you mean stubborn, hard to manage and annoying?"
"Exactly! Wait no..." She laughed at me and pulled at mine instead.
"How do you get yours to be so soft then? How do you even get the time?"
I shrugged my shoulders.
"A person needs to always have time to make themselves look great."
She rolled her eyes and nodded and stopped playing it. I wished she hadn't.
"Would you maybe do mine sometime?" She innocently looked up to me and asked and I felt something shift in my lower body at her pleading face.
"Of course I will. You don't even need to ask." We smiled at each other and got up as everyone had begun stirring and making their way outside. I leaned into her as we were walking towards the bench to eat breakfast and whispered into her ear.
"Come to my room when you're not busy."
