Kai's POV

I was running in the forest and I wasn't planning on stopping anytime soon. I could hear the laughs behind me. "Please, stop, I haven't done anything wrong" I screamed at the shadows behind me. Then I saw a shadow in front of me so I stopped. The shadow started to take form and I recognized that face anywhere. His blond hair, His green eyes, and his beautiful smile. but he wasn't smiling, he was smirking at me. "What's wrong Kai, you look like you've seen a ghost," he said to me. I could not answer him, "I'm scared, I'm scared of my best friend" i thought to myself. "You know, I've always thought you were weak, but this is just too much. I mean you are scared of your friends and sister. How pathetic!" he started laughing at me and my sister and the other ninjas walked up next to him. Their words stabbing me like knives. weak, pathetic, useless. I wanted it to stop, I wanted it to go away. "STOP, GO AWAY, IT'S NOT TRUE, IM NOT, STOP, PLEASE!"

I woke up and fell out of my bed with a thud. "Ow! That hurt. let's just hope no one else heard it." I stood up and looked at the clock. 03:00 in the morning. "Well, there's no way I'm going back to sleep again. might as well do something." I got dressed in my ninja gi and walked out of my room. I decided to train on the upper deck. So I grabbed my sword and started swinging it. Then I heard a familiar voice. "Kai, what are you doing up so early?" I turned around to see Lloyd standing a bit behind me. "I couldn't sleep," I grunted. I didn't want to tell him about my nightmare. "Kai, what's wrong?" He was concerned. "n...nothing is wrong." "Kai I've known you long enough to know that something is wrong." "*sigh* Lloyd, I told you nothing wrong," "Ok fine, if you don't want to tell me then that's fine. but could you at least answer this, was it a nightmare?" Lloyd asked and I sighed. "Yes...it was" I could see the worry in his eyes, I dropped my sword and walked over to Lloyd, And gave him a hug, he was surprised but then he hugged back. "I'm sorry for making you worry, but I'm fine. I promise," I didn't want him to worry we stood like that for a while just hugging each other. Then we let go. "you should go back to bed." "but what about you?" he asked. "don't worry I'm going back to bed soon, I...just need to clear my head." "ok," he sighed and walked back to his room.

I was just about to pick up my sword when I heard a voice. "Well wasn't that sweet to watch. I almost started crying." the voice said. "W..who is there?" I asked looking around me. I picked up my sword and got into a fighting position. The voice started laughing, "Haha, You think a simple sword can beat me?" "W...what do you want?" I could not see anyone on the ship except for me. "I want to help you, Kai. I understand how you feel." I got confused, "What do you mean?" I heard laughter, "Your friends think you're useless, weak. They think it would have been better if you never became a ninja." I tried to stop the words to affect me, "N...no they don't, they need me and they don't want me to leave," I could hear the doubt in my voice. "You know I'm right, so why are you fighting it. I could help you make them see just how much they actually need you." The words made me think, apart of me wanted to listen to the voice. "Can you show me your face?" I felt a dark presence behind me, I turned around and saw the shadow of a man. He had short black hair styled in spikes just like mine. His skin was pale and his eyes were black, they looked lifeless. He was wearing all black, a black shirt, black jeans, and black shoes. He smirked at me, "Is that better?" I backed away a few steps, "Who are you?" "You can call me shadow." "Okay, Shadow. How would you be able to help me? Even though I don't need help because my friends don't hate me." I asked. "Oh, you'll see, but for now, you can't tell the others about our little chat," after that he disappeared. I was frozen in place, thinking about what Shadow said. "Do they really think that am I really useless and weak," I asked myself and walked back to my room. I opened the door and lay down on my bed, I started at the roof and became lost in my thoughts. "Maybe Shadow's right." I shook my head, "No, they don't think all those things about me." I then drifted back to sleep with Shadow and his words deep in my mind.

Lloyd's POV

We were sitting by the table waiting for Zane to be done with breakfast. The only one that was not here was Kai. "Where's Kai?" I heard Jay ask. I looked up from his book, "He's probably still sleeping. He had a nightmare last night and probably didn't sleep much." "he did?" Cole sounded surprised, "Kai usually doesn't have nightmares." "Do you know what it was about?" Zane who came in with breakfast asked. "No, It was nearly impossible for me to get to know that he even had a nightmare, so I don't know what it was about." "Hmm, well if he didn't tell you then it must be bothering and he doesn't want us to worry." Zane sounded worried. "Or, he dreamed about something super embarrassing and don't want us to tease him about it," Jay stated. Just then Kai walked in. "Hey there, sleepy head." I smiled at him, but he didn't respond. He sat down on the far end of the table, away from us. "Um, Kai, we're sitting over here," Jay said as he clearly didn't get the message. "Kai didn't look up, he just stared down at his bowl of cereal. I got up and walked to him. I stood next to him but he didn't notice me. I heard him mumbling about something, it was hard to hear what he said but I made out four words "Shadow, True, Friends, Help." What did those words mean? I put my hand on his shoulder and he flinched. He turned his head to me and I got a good look at his face. His eyes were filled with fear. Fear? Why is Kai scared, he has nothing to scared of, especially with me and the others here, unless. Kai is scared of us. Kai stood up and left the room in a hurry like he wanted to get away from something, or someone. "What was that about?" Jay asked. "Shadow, True, Friends, Help," I mumbled. "What?" Jay had heard me. I turned to the others, "Kai was mumbling, I could only make out four words, Shadow, True, Friends, Help." "Hmm, What could it mean?" "Why are you asking us, you're the nindroid. You're supposed to have all the answers." "I don't have the answers for that, but it must mean something," Zane stated. "Yeah. Friends, that could mean us. True, could mean true friends. Help, Kai might need help with something. But Shadow, I have no idea what that means." Cole said. "Me neither. But we got to figure it out. And there's something else." "What more is there, Lloyd?" "Kai's eyes. They were filled with fear. And I think he was scared of us." They looked at me with surprised faces. "Why would he be scared of us?" Cole asked. I sighed, "I don't know, but I'm going to find out."
