On Thursday night I dreamed I was missing.
In my dream, I stood on the hill where I went on my first date with Isaac, only this time I was alone. And, then, I wasn't there at all. I was nowhere. The wind had blown me away...
"Honey? What are you still doing in bed?" My mom stormed in the bedroom. "You're going to miss the train!"
"Mom, I'm not feeling so good..." I moaned. "I think I'm gonna stay home today."
"What are you feeling?" She put her hand on my forehead.
"I didn't get enough sleep last night, that's all."
"Come on, love, today is Friday, tomorrow you can rest."
"TODAY IS FRIDAY?" I jumped out of bed and threw myself in the shower.
Two weeks had passed, and I was to meet Isaac this Friday, after class. I woke up feeling so uneasy I'd forgotten what day it was.
"Is everything okay?" Mom asked at the bathroom's door.
"Uh. Yeah, sure. Just a test. I forgot I had a test today." I scrubbed myself, quickly, under the hot shower.
A few minutes later, I rushed out of the house with a half-eaten toast in my hand and didn't miss the train by, like, thirty seconds.
As soon as I remembered I was meeting Isaac again, I was anxious to begin my day. And also, if I had stayed in bed, mom would've never let me go out at night to meet him.
I dozed off in most of my morning classes, shameful behaviour I had never allowed myself to endeavour, but I couldn't help myself this time. No nightmares, at least.
"Lucy?" I heard a faint voice but couldn't lift my head from the table. "Lucine!"
I looked up and Julie was staring at me. The cafeteria was emptier than usual. I guess Friday is everyone's favourite skip-class day. I moaned and let my forehead hit the table again.
"What the hell is going on with you, today?"
"I couldn't sleep last night." I mumbled.
"Nightmares again?" I heard she pull up a chair and sit across from me.
"Yep." I sat straight and looked at her.
"Geez. You look like hell."
"Wow. Thanks, Julie."
She pushed a cup of coffee across the table.
"I forgive you, but just cause you got me coffee." I told her, taking the cup in my hands.
Julie sipped her tea, staring at me. I sensed a question I wouldn't like.
"So,"
Here it comes...
"What's the reason of the nightmares?"
"I don't know...?" I put down my coffee. That wasn't what I was bracing myself for.
"Or should I say who"
Nevermind. There is it.
"I have no idea what you're talking about" I lifted the cup again to hide my face behind it.
"I know you, Lucy. You're messed up, and it's not just silly nightmares-"
"Not silly." I cut through.
"It's not just that, you're not just tired." She wasn't backing out. "What's his name?" She said in a little annoying sing-song voice.
"Isaac."
"I KNEW IT"
"Stop it."
"I just knew it. You're an open book."
"Stop it."
"Where did you meet? When did you meet? Why didn't I know about this since the moment it happened?" She raged on.
"Nothing happened."
"But will it happen?" Julie raised an eyebrow.
I smiled and hid behind my cup again.
"Maybe."
