Call of Duty: Ghosts

6. Gabriel T. Rorke

July 15, 2016 - 22:13:00

"[Surname], cover my six."

"Yes, sir," you said, raising your Honey Badger, and turning around every once in a while to scout the areas you walked past.

"Two tangos ahead, get down."

You crouched behind a turned over desk, your finger on the trigger of your AR.

"Take the one on the left."

You peered over the desk, raising your gun and taking aim.

"On you."

You looked through the scope, aligning the crosshairs with your target's head. You took a deep breath, and with full concentration, pulled the trigger. Your target's blood splattered the wall he had stood next to, and he collapsed on the floor. The tango beside him turned towards him in shock, immediately raising his gun. Rorke had immediately disposed of him, shooting his chest.

He motioned for you to follow him, and you lowered your gun and continued to cover his six as he walked. Eventually you had reached a door to a room- the room that was suspected of holding your main target.

"It's your call. Breach it, kick it open, whatever."

"This asshole isn't worth any of my explosives," you said, slinging your Honey Badger on your back and grabbing your SC-2010. You pulled out the operating rod, and then braced yourself as you counted down from 3.

3...

2...

You kicked the door open, rushing in with your gun raised and finger on the trigger. You quickly scanned the room with sharp movements, then lowered your gun with disappointment.

"All clear..."

"They must know we're here," Rorke said, kicking a trash can out of his way.

"What now?"

He hushed you, holding up a hand. You stared at the room before you, concentrating on sound only.

Beep, beep, beep...

The sound was faint, but it was present.

"[Surname]!" he shouted urgently, grabbing you by your wrist. He pulled you into a run, shot through one of the windows, and let you run ahead of him. You smashed through the window, feeling as he grabbed you firmly from behind, shielding you from the blast.

......

You found yourself lying amongst piles of rubble, and you sat up, hair falling in your face. You scanned the area for your superior, catching sight of his body underneath a large piece of debris.

"Commander!"

You began lifting the piece off of his body, praying that you weren't adding any more damage.

"I'm fine, I'm fine," he said, grunting as he helped you lift the piece out of the way. He was surprised to be greeted by your shaking arms wrapped around his torso. "[Surname]?"

"Why the hell would you protect me?"

"... Unless you're wearing a blast resistant tenfold, I wouldn't complain." He placed his hand on your head, stroking your hair. "Plus... some things in this world are just worth protecting."
