Chapter 10

I dreaded going to school the next week. Although school was near ending for my class, everyone sill seemed to care about all the superficial bullshit. And about me? I wasn't one of those popular kids so why did everyone suddenly care whether or not if I liked a guy? It was so frustrating and aggravating.

My mom thought some shopping would do the trick, but I knew she was wrong, yet I don't want to bum her out too so I obliged.

"I'm gonna get a smoothie, what do you want?" My mom said.

"I don't know, surprise me." I shrugged.

"Meet me by the shoes in Macy's, sweetie." She kissed my temple, and disappeared into the crowd of people. I headed towards the shoe section of the Macy's. I sat at one of the chairs, and just waited. Kids I knew walked by, and smirked, probably still obsessing over my love life. Then the worst possible thing happened, Molly walked by. I didn't know I was making eye contact with her until she said something.

"Emmett, hey." She said awkwardly.

"Oh, hey." I snapped out of my trance.

"How's it going?" She laughed like she always did.

"Horrible." I didn't hesitate.

"I bet." Molly finally sounded sincere, "Can I say something?"

I could only imagine what it was.

"I did not tell Laila that you love Luke." She swallowed.

"I don't love him." I lied, "At least not like that."

"She put words in my mouth. I was really upset because I felt so uncomfortable with Luke's family, and how much more they loved you than me, I was upset, and I turned to Laila who's been my friend since forever, and a true friend wouldn't do that. I know we're not good friends, I don't even think we're friends, but I didn't like what she did. It was cruel. You don't have anyone, and she took the only person that mattered. I mean the only person you really ever talk to is Luke. He's your everything." Molly gasped for air after talking for so long.

"How dare you. How dare you say I have no one. You're a real fake bitch, you know that? Laughing to avoid conflict. I wish I was as dumb as you, I think I'd be a lot happier. You don't like me. You don't care about me, so don't act like you do." I snapped.

"Oh my god," Molly looked worried, and then almost sympathetic, "You do love him. You didn't even deny it."

"You're a cunt." I stated. I turned around, and started walking. Right in my tracks I was stopped. I found something far more worse than running into Molly. Luke. I walked past him as if I didn't care. I could tell I hurt him, and that made me hurt.

I spent the rest of that day in my room. I didn't know whether I needed to cry or punch something. Then, somebody knocked. I walked downstairs, and dreaded seeing anyone, even a pizza guy.

"Hi." Molly swallowed.

"I'm sorry." I said. Molly didn't say anything, but with her eyes she asked if she could come in. I held the door open wider, and she entered.

"I'm sorry." Molly said.

"Why are you apologizing?" I felt tears stream down my face.

"Because I'm a horrible person." Molly said.

"You know that I don't like Luke, and you do? You know that even if I did, I would have to deal with it because you're dating him, and no ones feelings really matter except yours and his." I said.

"I'm just so sorry." She started crying too.

"But you don't have to be!" I yelled.

"But I am, I don't know why I am, I just am!" She yelled back.

"You're actually a really nice person." I sat on the same couch as her, "I didn't mean to snap at you like I did."

"I know." She said.

"I'm angry because you're right. The best friendship I've ever had, actually, the only friendship I've very had was stolen from me, and was just tossed in the trash. And on top of all this, I don't even know what Luke thinks of me."

"If this is the part where you ask, I'm with you, I have no idea." Molly sighed.

"That's lovely." I laughed sarcastically.

"I'm really sorry, you know." Molly gave a half smile.

"Yeah, me too."
