"I'll be right back," Dewey excused as the group ate their ice cream cones, "I need to use the bathroom. Webby, can you hold my cone?"
"Sure!" She replied, taking it from him and watching him walk off.
Dewey had a headache. He wasn't sure if it was all those competitions he joined, or the fact that there were way too many things he had in common with Huey and Louie. They all looked the same - save Huey's eyes - and they were all born on that exact day, and while Dewey knew nothing of Huey's parents, Louie had way too much in common with him in terms of family.
"There you are!" An exasperated voice called as he walked out of the bathroom. An angry girl in purple stormed up to him, two other identical girls walking behind her. The most curious part was that the girl with the pink ribbon was wearing clothes similar to Louie's.
"Um..." Dewey began, prepared to tell the girl she'd mistaken him for someone else, but she had already grabbed his wrist and begun dragging him away.
"Where were you?!" She ranted. "What gave you the great idea to go missing for a day?! April had to pretend to be you so your uncle wouldn't freak!"
"I'm not even going to ask." He sighed.
"You owe me big time, Llewellyn, big time!" The girl continued. Dewey didn't even have time to process what she had called him before she continued her rant.
"And another thing! Why are you all wet?! Did you jump in the water?"
"I fell off a boat." Dewey replied.
"Oh no!" The girl with the pink ribbon - April - gasped. "Are you alright?"
"I think." He blinked. "Though I might be hallucinating."
"Oh!" The girl in pigtails exclaimed, before slowly saying, "how many fingers am I holding up?"
"Eight?"
"Alright, he's fine." She declared.
"Leave him alone, June." April scolded. "He looks sick to his stomach."
"I feel it too." Dewey confirmed. The only girl left unnamed let out a huge sigh.
"Alright," She said, shaking her head, "ok. Let's just get you home."
"Which is?" He replied tiredly.
"To the party, duh!" June exclaimed.
"Wuh?"
"You know," the first girl deadpanned, "only your birthday party, the one you wouldn't shut up about?"
"Goofy made chocolate cake with green buttercream icing." April told him wistfully.
"I do like cake." Dewey nodded.
And so, he walked back to wherever it was that they were taking him, with a million thoughts swirling in his mind.
-
An hour later, Dewey still hadn't returned, and everyone was getting worried.
"We should go look for him." Webby said worriedly. Louie nodded in agreement.
"I'll come with you." He offered. Webby felt a bit less worried - Louie reminded her of Dewey, in a sense. She had her suspicions, everything was way too similar, but she didn't dare voice them. She didn't want Louie or Huey to react negatively, or for her to turn out to be wrong.
"Where could he have gone?" Louie asked.
"I'm not sure!" Webby panicked. "We don't come out here often, so he might not know his way around."
