(Sophie's POV)
I was standing outside the doorstep to Havenfield. I saw Grady, giving Verdi a bath, I could smell the stink from here. I ran up to me step-dad.
"Hey Grady!" I said, and choked back a gag and fanned the air. "Man, it stinks here! Verdi? When was the last time you had a bath?!"
Grady smiled. "Hey Soph."
"I'll talk to you later...after you clean yourself up and don't smell like Verdi breath." I told him, playfully.
Grady chuckled. "Alright. By the way, Edaline is making mallowmelt!"
My stomach churned, I realized how hungry I was.
"Woohoo!" I said, "I can't miss out on that, see you, Dad!"
I jogged away and bursted into the door.
The delicious smell of mallowmelt greeted me.
I tucked my hair behind my ears and grabbed a mallowmelt and stuffed the whole thing into my mouth.
Edaline looked at me and laughed. "Someone's hungry, ay?"
"Sorry" I said, it came out kind of muffled because my mouth was full of mallowmelt and was dripping down my chin.
Edaline laughed.
"How was your day?" She asked.
"Pretty nerve racking." I said, honestly.
"Why's that?" She asked, putting more freshly made mallowmelt on the plate.
"Oh-"
I was interrupted by Grady coming into the door.
"For gods sake Grady! Go take a shower!" Edaline said, flustered.
Grady took a mallowmelt from my plate, I glared and scooted it away from him.
He laughed. "Sorry, Soph."
"Actually — guys, there's something I need to tell you." I said, hiding my face behind my ears to hide my nervous expression.
"What is it, dear?" Edaline asked.
"Hmmph?" Grady said, his mouth full of mallowmelt.
"Well...this wasn't particularly my idea. Biana decided it's about time all of us got our matchmaking scrolls, and open them up together, today at Everglen. So, uh, I need you guys to order it for me while I get ready." I told them, slighting hiding my face from their eyes.
"Oh my god! That's wonderful! Our baby's growing up!" She elbowed Grady and looked at my with puppy eyes.
"Yeah, yeah." I said, flustered.
Grady crossed his arms. "Hm. Will that Keefe boy be there? He's no good for you." He said.
"Graaadyyyyyy!" I whined.
Edaline slapped him with a rag.
"Alright, alright! Just..be careful, Soph." Grady kissed me on the forehead.
I was about to puke from the stench.
"Grady! Take a shower!" I complained.
"Right." He went upstairs.
I ate one last mallowmelt. "Well, I'm gonna go get dressed for everglen and whatever." I told Edaline.
She sat next to me and rubbed my back. "Alright, just..have fun, okay?"
"Of course." I said, and ran upstairs to the third floor, my bedroom.Picking out outfits gave me anxiety.
I kept biting my nails and worrying about what would happen today. Who would be my number one? Who am I most compatible with? Would there be jealousy among the boys of some sort?
Ugh. I sat down on my flowered carpet, criss crossed. I wished Keefe would be here, he always somehow manages to make me calm down and forget about my worries.
I pinched myself for thinking that.
I shook my head, and just brought out a sparkly red t-shirt, with jeans.
I took a look in my mirror. Eh.
"Oh!" Vertina, the girl living inside my mirror said. "You should really try some lip gloss and foundation if you ever want that boy to fall for you!" She said.
"Uhhh" I said.
"Come here!" She said, beckoning me.
"Ugh, whatever. But don't overdo things!" I told her.
"Yeah, whatever." She said, with a devilish smile plastered across her annoyingly flawless face.
She told me what to put on my face. With a lot of oohs and ahhhs.
"You'll definitely stun the boys with this, they'll pee their pants!" She giggled.
"Uhh, sure." I said.
"Just one more thing." She adjusted my hair, telling me to tie it upwards. And I did, reluctantly.
"Ugh, you should really wear red more often, it goes so well with your eyes." She told me.
Ugh. As if I have to be reminded about my abnormal eye colour. I didn't really enjoy being the only elf with an eye colour other than blue. As if I need to draw more attention to myself. I've gotten used to it in the past few years, but it's still annoying.
Vertina squealed, interrupting my thoughts.
"Oh! And one more thing-"
I stepped out of the mirror's range, thinking that's enough.
I walked down to the living room and found Edaline sitting there. I saw a package sittin next to her. I went beside her.
"Hey Sophie." She said. "The matchmaking scroll came in just now."
I gulped.
She put her hand over mine. "I know it's very scary and nerve racking, Sophie. But everything's going to go smoothly, I'm sure of that."
I smiled. "Thanks, Edaline."
She smiled back at me.
"You know, those two boys go crazy for you." She raised an eyebrow.
"Oh, uh-" I stammered.
She looked at me. "Just, be careful, I don't want you getting into any trouble or drama."
"No worries, Edaline." I smiled.
I felt a vibration in my pant pocket, it was my imparter. It was a message from Keefe;
"You're late, Foster. What were you doing all this time? It's half past 5! Did you take that long to get ready? To you know, impress me of course."
I sighed. "I'm late, I should probably get going to Everglen."
"Okay." Edaline hugged me. "Have fun, sweetie."
I smiled. "I will"
I grabbed the matchmaking scroll package and brought out my leaping crystal.
"Everglen," I said, and vanished into the light.Authors Note: I doubt anyone is reading this, if you are please vote and comment! Hope you enjoyed chapter 2 (:
