We were on a school bus, travelling to the location our 'vacation'!
I stared out of the window at the passing fields and flowers, the pale blue sky and the cool streams.
I read in a book once that this world used to be much different. In the past, there were huge skyscrapers that towered up to the edges of the sky, so big that you had to ride large 'metal birds' to see the top of them.
All that's left now are fields full of grass and flowers... I wonder what happened...
I turned to my right, to Aiko sitting on the buss seat, happily listening to music from some unrecognizable device.
'Hey Aiko, did you know this world used to much cooler?' I said, trying to spark her interest. I always liked to tell her my new findings.
'What do you mean by cooler,' she said as she put away the strange device and turned to look at me.
'Well... there used to be lots of 'metal birds' roaming the sky called planes. Apparently you could travel over the sea on them'
'Metal birds? What's wrong with normal birds. I think that metal birds wouldn't really look nice.'
Seriously... what was wrong with this girl.
'No, no, no... these 'metal birds' can carry people inside of them. Image what that could mean...'
She looked at me blankly for a moment before cracking up... 'You're so stupid Sato, it doesn't matter how well something works, and all that matter is their strength!'
I looked at her... what does she mean? Strength? But what about making life easier...
Whatever...
'Anyway, you know there were so many other cool inventions, right?'
'What was the strongest invention?'
'hmmm. As far as I've heard it would be a nuclear bomb'
'Nuclear bomb? How strong is one of those?'
'Really strong! It's apparently so strong it can instant kill an entire city!'
'Kill and entire city full of people with Egs! That's so amazing!'
'No... I think it was more like kill an entire city full of wastes...'
'You are so stupid Sato... even I could kill an entire city of wastes! How does that make it strong.'
I turned around angrily.
Aiko looked at me clueless, and then comes to a realization.
'Sorry about that Sota.... I got a bit carried away...'
'I'll forgive you if you give me that music player' I said as I grinned slyly.
'Music player? How could you Sato? This music player is my child' she said as she tightly hugged the music player against her chest.
'If you don't give it to me... I'll be really sad...' I said as I gave her a very sad expression.
'But... but...'
'I was so depressed when you said that you would kill and entire city full of wastes like me...'
'But...'
'I even considered suicide as a way of ending this deep despair that runs through my veins. I... might even do it right now' I said as I got up from my seat.
My childhood friend looked at me with a panicking expression.
'Sota... I am so sorry. Here please have this music player' she said as she gave the music player in her hands.
