Hi everybody! This is my first story, so any feedback you have, good or bad, I want it. So just leave a comment after you read. I'm really excited to add on to this, but I just want to see initial reactions before I get too far ahead of myself.
So, I appreciate you taking the time to read this!
xoxo,
Mel

Write what you know. Write what you know. Whenever you have writer's block, just draw from what you know. How many times had I heard that now? At first it made sense...until it didn't anymore. How could I write what I know? Nobody would read it. My life is boring. How could I possibly write a love story if I've never been in love? How could I write an adventure story if my life is duller than a #2 pencil after an SAT? And who in the world would just want to read the life story of an average teenager? I know I wouldn't.
Maybe I should start from the beginning. My name is Melanie Jenkins and I am 16 years old. It is my dream to one day write editorials for the New York Times. Ok, so that sounds boring to most people, but I find people so fascinating. I love arguments in all senses of the word. I could spend years studying debates over government, social, or economic issues and I would never get bored and I would always have an opinion. So, in order to achieve my goals, I decided it would be a good idea to go out for my school newspaper, "The Knight Life." But now, I'm stuck trying to right my audition essay. I have to write a story based on my life, and I have major writer's block. My life is just average. And I don't really see the point. It would make more sense to have us write a practice article for the section we're interested in, right? This is so dumb.
The worst part? I actually tried to make something up. I tried a rags-to-riches story, I tried a "pretty nerdy girl ends up with the most popular boy in school" story, I attempted a vampire fan-fiction/love story, a werewolf story, a comedy, the list just goes on and on. And I'm still stuck. I'm no closer to knowing what to write than I was two weeks ago. And this story is due in two days. What now? All I want to do is write about something interesting, something relevant, something that will distinguish me from everyone else. And right now, just staring at the scratched out words in black ink in my notebook makes me feel like for once, I don't have anything to say.
