My heart thundered in my chest as I stood outside the doors to the maid's entrance of the Alpha's rooms. Staring down the hall, I glanced nervously at the guards stationed on their side of the door.
The doors to the Alpha's quarters were twice as tall as I was, and they stood with a steadfast strength that made me want to flee in the opposite direction.
After having checked the other areas, I'd found the work already completed and had headed to the Alpha's rooms for the final task.
Upon arrival, I had seen the other members of my group enter the Alpha's rooms and get straight to work. But since I'd entered late, I hadn't wanted to draw attention to myself by coming in late. So I'd stood awkwardly in the hall for several minutes stalling in indecision while I wasted time I could have spent figuring out what the Snake General was going to do to me.
Sighing, I slumped against the cream colored door and covered my hands with my face.
This was a disaster. I was probably going to die, and it would all be because I’d mistakenly walked into a bathroom. A bathroom.
My entire life I’d made no mistakes, caused no problems, hidden within the ranks of my own kind. My whole life I’d been invisible and now I was horribly vulnerable and visible from all sides.
There was never any guarantee that I would live to be an adult, but I had always trusted in my ability to be small, to be slave, to be a true omega. I had trusted in my own nature to keep me safe, and now, and now, I was going to pay for being an omega.
The door behind me lurched backwards, and a shriek left my lips as my back slammed painfully into the ground.
My spine shuddered in protest as I looked up at Nessa, who stared down at me with surprised eyes. Groaning low in my throat, I rolled onto my hands and knees and unsteadily got to my feet.
The surprise on her small face slowly faded to a blank mask. I could see the anger and annoyance behind her eyes and I looked back to the floor as she turned on her heel and walked back the way she came.
Bracing one arm against the door frame, I began to shuffle down the narrow hallway leading to the Alpha’s chambers.
I held my breath as we walked in silence towards my final task for the day. My last obligation before I had to report to my supervisors and would probably lose my life. Only one more task. One that quite possibly may be one of the most awkward jobs distributed by the supervisors.
The Alpha.
He was slime ball like no other. Just the thought of him made me shudder.
He was a man of salacious nature, which, in itself was disgusting to me. He was known for, among other things, forcefully taking omegas to his bed and leaving their bodies for the Ng16s to clean up afterward.
Men like him terrified me.
It wasn't uncommon for men and women of the pack to request omegas to their rooms, but I had been fortunate enough to avoid such calls.
Even so, I still harbored an ungodly fear that there would come a day where someone would call upon me and I would be forced to bend to their every whim.
The Alpha had also committed patricide.
The man had killed his own father with no remorse. He'd only done so to claim the alpha title early.
He was a sick monster of his very own variety.
Running my hands through my once braided hair, I did my best to comb it back into it's original shape.
