"Reijin." A groggy man with black hair says as he tries to wake his sister.
"Reijin, get up. I have some good news." He says, lightly shaking her. Rolling over, a young black headed girl opens her green eyes.
"Hm, good news?" She says.
"You heard me. Get up and moving, kid. Meet me in the kitchen for breakfast, and I'll talk to you then.
"You've woken me up this early just to make me wait?" Reijin asks, mildly annoyed.
"That's right. Now get started before I decide not to tell you at all."
"Ugh . . ." With a groan, the girl decided to do as he said. Her brother could be the most frustrating man sometimes, but she wouldn't change him for anything. Shota Aizawa. That's the man she can call older brother. Shortly after her birth, Reijin and Shota's mother passed. He was barely fifteen at the time. Their father off doing only God knows what, was no where to be found. Shota, being only a teenager himself, took on the responsibility of raising a baby girl all on his own. Reijin would always believe she owes him the world for that. The two have pushed through many hardships together but now the two of them were at a comfortable place in life. A comfortable place for Reijin to begin chasing her dreams. Her dream was to get into U.A. High and become a hero just like her brother. Finishing up with getting ready, the girl heads downstairs.
"You're making actual breakfast. It must be really good news." She says playfully.
"Very funny." He retorts unamused.
"So I started filling out U.A. Applications. I want to guarantee a spot in the entrance exams." She says.
"No need. Have you heard of entry by special recommendation?" He says, flipping another pancake.
"No, but it's pretty self-explanatory. Why?"
"Well, I've spoken with the principal about you often. I recommended you, and he approved. You're going to U.A." He says rather aloofly for it being such big news. The thought enters her mind. This was her chance to prove that she could be more than her past wanted her to be. So why did it feel wrong?
"Shota?"
"Yeah, Rei?"
"I appreciate that. I really do. Thank you." She says.
"Don't thank me. It's your grades and quirk that-"
"But I'd like to get into U.A. on my own." Reijin cuts in.
"Reijin . . ."
"Shota, I don't want any help. I want to take the entrance exam and get in that way. I want to compete against everyone else. I need to prove that I deserve a spot." She says. She needs it this way. She'll never accept that she deserves to be there if she doesn't take that exam. It might be foolish. The opportunity for her dreams to come true was just handed to her. But that was the problem. It was handed to her. This was something that needed to be earned. Shota has dedicated his entire life to her. This time, she was going to prove she has something to show for it.
"If you take the exam, there's a chance you may not get in." He warns.
"That's exactly why I have to. I need to know I deserve to be there. If I can't even pass the entrance exam why should I go on special recommendation? I don't want favoritism. That won't make me the hero that I want to be." She says.
"It's not favoritism, Rei. I trained you myself. I know you deserve it. You can hold your own in a fight. You're top of your class right now, and once you get a better grasp on that quirk of yours you'll be set. U.A. is the best place for you."
"I'll see about that after I take the exam." She says, standing her ground. She's always been that way. Assertive and unwavering. Shota loved that about her. She turned out great, much to his surprise. He honestly thought she would have run wild by now. He wasn't exactly fit to raise a child as he was one himself at the time. He had to grow and learn with her. He had to mature quickly, but that also rubbed off on Reijin. She learned to think with logic and make adult decisions young. She was a lot more rebellious when she was younger, but she grew to be a very mature, responsible young lady. And a very beautiful one at that. She had jet black hair like her brother. It was long with loose curls, and she wore it half up. She had a petite frame and very feminine features. Rosy cheeks, plump lips, her father's deep green eyes, and a sweet voice like her mother. In other words, she was very physically appealing. Shota wondered if the beautiful gene skipped him completely. Needless to say, he was very proud of the young woman that his sister has become and very proud of the decision she was making now.
"Reijin, I'm proud of you. There's no doubt in my mind about you passing. Recommendation or not, you're going to U.A." He said with a very minuscule smile on his face. Upon those words, Reijin left her seat to hug her brother.
"Thank you, Shota." She says with arms around him. Patting her head, he accepts the affection.
"Mhm." He nonchalantly says. "Now let's eat breakfast. I didn't make pancakes for nothing."
"Right!" She says with glee. Her journey was only beginning.
