“The will”

~*~

What?  That’s crazy!” I exclaimed after hearing my dad’s lawyer read his last will and testament.  I almost jumped out of my seat.  My dad had always had his quirkiness, may he rest in peace,  but he didn’t have to put it in writing and make me live it. “Oh gosh, daddy!”

You heard it correctly Ms. Dela Fuente. Here’s your copy of the document.”

I immediately got the paper. Carefully, I read the paper and saw my dad’s signature at the bottom.  “Pusa ng gala!!! tama nga.”

Pero, attorney. This can’t be. Hindi pwede ganito. Nasa legal age na ako. I can’t have a guardian.”  I insisted.  What upsets me most are the terms stipulated in the will. My guardian will take charge of my financial matters. It indicated that I could get the shares of my father’s business when I reach the age of 35 or if I get married whichever comes first. Naman, naman!  I am only 24 years old. Besides, it included in the will na ang dapat kong maging asawa should have the blessing of my guardian.  Tapos, yung guardian ko is…. “Oh my geee!!!!” I can’t even say his name.

Well, Ms. Dela Fuente, your father was very specific in his instructions. I am only here to inform you and implement his wish.” The old man looked straight in my eyes. I wondered how much did my father paid him.  Should I counter offer? Kaya kong bayaran once I get my inheritance.

“The will is binding Ms. Dela Fuente. Do you want to challenge it? You can. But since you are an adult, then you must already be aware of the slowness of the judicial system in the Phils.”  Parang natauhan ako sa sinabi niya.  He is right. It might take ages before I get this resolved.

“Your guardian should be arriving anytime soon. Na-traffic lang daw. So, I suggest you stay in this room and wait for him.  In the meantime, iiwan muna kita rito as I need to make a call.”

Teka, teka attorney. Pwede umuwi na lang ako. Do I have to be here pag dumating si guardian?”

I can facilitate the discussion between the two of you.” It’s my life, ano!

At my age, my father could be so protective.  I love him very much. In reality, I am still in shock by his sudden death. Nag po-polo lang sila ng mga kaibigan niya and he fell from the horse.  He had fatal injuries that caused his death. That was a month ago.

I was devastated. He didn’t even give me a chance to take care of him. I’ve only spent three years with him since I came back to the Philippines to live with him.
