The Price of War

When blood is shed at the pulsing target
Of an arrowhead or a fired bullet,
The bleeding red is a prophecy
Of the tears and dread to the family
Of a loved one lost on the field of war,
Paying mutiny's cost, while his life's devoured.
When anxious ears shall hear such news,
Their hearts will be pierced by these scarlet hues.
Though he laid his life down for pride and honour,
The cruelty of war does make me wonder...

Does winning the war even stand a comparison to losing a loved one?
