PROLOGUE

/Arabella/

I woke up in the morning to another perfect blue day. The Palm trees that framed my window softly rustled in the wind and the distant view and sound of waves crashing made my blood start flowing faster making me jump so fast out of bed my eyes blacked, trying to adjust to the sudden movement and started hurrying around to find my cleanest bathing suit.

"Aloha kakahiaka" I said to my mother who herd me stumbling and came to visit my room.

"Good morning to you too." My mom said laughing accepting the kiss i planted on her cheek as I ran past her.

My father was already outside our small open house packing our boards onto the roof of the dark green jeep we owned. We lived on the Island of Mauna Loa Hawaii in a house with Mosquito nets instead of doors. My father was a pro surfer who, after his career was put to an end, moved us here from Florida.

We drove down the dirt road that covered the area where we lived until we hit an open area that only my father and I really knew about. The waves went massive here but they were defiantly big enough to ride, which to my dad and I was all that really mattered.

-

I sat in the middle of the water far from land looking behind me for the next opportunity to ride back to the coast where my father was waiting when I saw a group of dolphins swimming underneath me. Slipping off of my board I entered the water to make friends with the sea creatures who willingly accepted my presents and swam around where I treded water.

I could tell from being under the water id already missed my opportunity to ride back so I swam back up away from my new friends to sit on my board again. The mammals continued to play at my dangling feet as if to re invite me to swim with them again. But before I could react again to dismount my opportunity came. Bracing myself I accepted the wave and let it control how I got back to the shore.

"Took you long enough, dude!" My dad said laughing at me finishing my ride. I paddled over to him into the water where our feet barley hit the sand, well his feet, I didn't get my fathers height.

"There were all these dolphins out there... We were playing..." I said shrugging and readjusting my bathing suit.

The look on my fathers face though made me stop fiddling with my hands and give him a look of concern.

"Lets go catch one more." He said avoiding eye contact and starting to paddle away.

-

"What do you man we are moving to California!" I shouted at my parents who sat with their hands in their laps, looking from me to each other.

"I got an offer to open my own shop where I can sell the boards I make, and teach, and maybe even compete again, Ara, please try to understand!" My dad said getting agitated with me.

"And what about me. What about or home, our family. What are we suppose to do. Leave the one place that makes us all happy! And feel like a family?" I said the tears stinging in my eyes. I couldn't find the courage or the strength to continue to stand there so I walked into my room and pulled the blinds I used to have privacy.

The pictures of the ocean and me surfing in the waters of my fathers and my spot didn't seem to help the fact that I was trying not to cry so I picked myself up and went out to the little tent area I had and sat in my hammock staring up at the sky.

Every time a tear would slip I quickly wiped it away, acting as if it wasn't really there, but by the time my mom knocked and let herself in the tears were coming to fast to hide them.

Without saying anything she wrapped me in a hug, not bothering to say anything. We sat there like that for a long time, rocking back and forth as we both silently cried to each other.

"I know this is hard," mom finally said, "But we can do this. Yes, this is our home, and it will forever be our home. But well have the beach, and well have opportunities to grow closer. We need to do this for your dad. He's finally getting a second chance to finish living his dream." She said still holding my head to her chest. The sound of her heart mixed with her soothing voice helped me calm down to the point where Id stop crying and lent back to give her a weak smile.

"We can do this." She said putting her soft hand against my cheek.
