Ten Years Gone

Chapter 1:
The light turned green and the empty intersection roared as two Jeeps raced down the street. The men in the back of the opposing red Jeep yelled loudly, urging their driver on. The man in the other green Jeep glanced at the men then clenched down on the toothpick in his mouth and pressed hard on the accelerator.

A sharp turn came into view and the driver of the red Jeep slowed, but the other started ahead, keeping his fast pace. The turn came up fast and the driver of the green Jeep flipped the wheel to the side, swerving is car into a drift.

Another light showed itself, the green turning to a bright yellow. The red Jeep struggled to keep up as the green Jeep flew ahead and through the yellow light.

Smiling wide the driver of the green Jeep snickered as he watched the red Jeep stop at the light. Letting his car slow, the man drove off to the side and waited for the opposer.

"That's cheating and you know it Tully." One of the men shouted from the back of the topless red Jeep. The other man, Tully, removed himself from the driver's seat and took his position against the side of the car.

Tully twirled his toothpick "I don't think that was cheating at all... I just think you need a lesson in driving." He glanced about at each of the men before landing his blue eyes on the driver.

The driver scoffed and got out of his car, walking around before planting himself in front of Tully "one of these day's you're going to find yourself on the side of the road. Bleeding and in pain, unable to do anything because you know, you know, that you put yourself there." 

"John, there's no point in giving him a lesson too." one of the men commented, sighing as he leaned back.

Tully rose an eyebrow "and I suppose this won't happen to you?"

John huffed "it won't."

"Look, either way, you owe me 50 bucks... and seeing as how you keep losing I might raise that price, Walter." Tully jibed, not moving from his spot against his Jeep.

"Fine. You'll get your money tonight, but you've got another thing coming Pettigrew." John shot back before turning and jumping into his Jeep, speeding away.

Tully started after the car, as soon as it was out of sight he let out a breath and climbed into the driver's seat. He ran a shaking hand through his blonde wind-swept hair, turning the ignition he rode off on the long street.

Chapter 2:

"Hitch!?" Tully shouted, confused as the dirty blonde stood from the stoop of his house.

Hitch grinned as he stepped down, putting on his round glasses as he did so. Tully parked the Jeep and jumped out, spitting out his toothpick on the ground as he jogged to hug his long Time friend.

"It's been forever-" Tully removed himself from the brotherly hug "I thought you'd said 'right away'."

"I did, and I'm sorry it took so long to follow up on that..." Hitch sighed, but didn't falter in looking over Tully.

Tully's smile fell as he noticed something across Hitch's jaw "what happened?" He motioned to the scab.

"Oh. It's nothing I couldn't handle" Hitch replied, brushing off Tully's concern.

There was a slight pause as the two got over the shock of seeing each other in what felt like forever.

Soon enough they walked up onto the porch of Tully's house, Tully opened the screen door "so. How long has it really been?" Tully asked as they entered his house.
