My Initiation

Around 7 o'clock, someone is apparently in the room because suddenly someone puts a hand on my mouth. When I wake up a bit, I see that it's a boy and before I can scream or so, he takes me out of my bed. I'm blindfolded and taken somewhere cold. Maybe the basement? They place me on a chair and when they take off my blindfold, a bright light shines in my face. A low voice starts talking.

"Do you, Kathrin van der Woodsen, solemnly swear that you will protect the said things here with your life?"

I realise that this is some sort of ceremony and I answer: "I solemnly swear!"

The lights go out and I'm pushed into a room where someone is standing in the corner.

"Who are you?" I ask.

There was a stroke of moonlight that comes through a tiny window in the wall. He comes forward and when he's standing in the stroke of moonlight, I see that I don't know him. When he speaks, his tone is questioning like he doesn't know what is happening and what we are doing here.

"My name is Teague Williams. Who are you? And do you know what is happening?"

I respond after stepping into the light. "I'm Kathrin van der Woodsen and I think it's some sort of initiation."

He frowns and says "Initiation? That's strange."

I see a bench and go to it so I can sit on it. He comes after me and sits next to me.

"Well, this place is full of traditions so it doesn't surprise me."

He laughs at that and it's a nice laugh. He asks if we are the only ones.

"No" I respond. "I saw on the list in Stansfield Hall that we were with 4 in total."

He frowned again and asked "Stansfield Hall?"

This time it was my time to laugh and I answer that that was the place where you had to pick up your schedule. He starts blushing and his mouth formes an 'o'. Then he asks some questions like if I had family, a brother or a sister, and I ask him about his family. Suddenly, a blanket is shoved into the closed room and a bed appeared. On the wall appeared a message.

Sleep next to each other in this bed and pretend like you two are together.

That is so weird and I know that Sydney had something to do with it. But I am not going to back down! I made a promise that I would do anything to stay here and to get in the board. So I go laying in the bed and take off my pyjamas. I am laying in the bed with only my bra and my matching culotte from Calvin Klein. He does the same and he is only wearing a boxer from Jack&Jones. We are laying next to each other and I sleep in an instant because I am so tired.

It feel like they had only let us sleep for a minute but I see from the light that it's almost noon which means that I had to be in class in 1 or 2 hours! I jump into my clothes and see that there's a lighted path and that the light is sunlight. So I follow it after waiting for Teague because we both don't want to go alone. One minute we are still walking towards the light and the next we are out in the open in the middle of the teachers parking lot. They are all staring at us and I realise too late that we are standing in each other's pyjamas. They all start laughing and I know that this is a test so I take Teague's hand and go from teacher to teacher asking their advice who was looking better in 'the changed pyjama'-look. When we did them all, we head back to Billings and on our way back we get a lot of whistling. We both actually enjoy it and when I look around I see Sydney who doesn't look happy. Probably because her plan didn't work out. We arrive and change and I had to run together with Celine Colista, another kind Billings girl, to get in class in time.

We sit down and just one second later the bell rings. I see that it was one of the teachers who had said that Teague and I looked amazing. He also sees me and says "How lovely to join us, Kathrin, but I preferred the pyjamas so you wouldn't have been running everybody over to get here in time."

I was probably already red from the running and am going from 20% redness to 89%. The whole class is looking at me and I pretend like I'm writing something down while I ask quickly to Celine if I am red or blushing. She shakes her head and says "no". I take out my iPad and my iPhone 7 to put notes next to the dia's and to record my lessons.

When I'm settled, my phone starts ringing but I don't want to pick up because I'm in the school building and the rules say 'no phoning in the school buildings'. I just see how many missed texts and phone calls I have (16 missed calls and 42 unread messages) and I put it away in an instant because the teacher, Mr. Eric Dalton, starts immediately with his lesson. It's an 2-hour lesson and when I get out I see that most of the missed calls are from Chloé. That's strange... Didn't she had her initiation? Suddenly someone comes walking next to me and when I look I see that it's Victor.

"Hey" he says.

"Hi" I say with a bit warmth in my voice. "Did you enjoy the view last night?"

"Last night?" he asks.

"Yeah" I respond. "The screens must've been an amazing view to look at."

He shots me a weird look and then it's coming to me. Victor wasn't standing with Sydney when Teague and I were running to our house. Perhaps he didn't see it...

"Where were you last night?" I ask him.

"Well... I got drunk and some friends got me to my bed and I slept until 12 o'clock this noon. I woke up of the sound of my phone and I saw that Sydney was calling me and I was just too late to get it so she sent me a text that she had to show me something. I texted back that I had to be in class in half an hour so I hurried to there and was just too late due to Sydney who came by because I didn't respond enough and I had to stay until the last classes were finished and then I saw you texting and I didn't want to interrupt.*

"Oh" I say. "And do you know what she had to show you?"

"No, why?" he asks.

"I had my..." I start telling but I am interrupted by Sydney.

"Kathrin, we need to talk!"
