Chapter 1:
First Day of Ninth Grade
“Abby wait for me!” cried Jessica as she walked down the long hallway. “Don't worry, I'm not leaving you.” I replied as I rushed back to meet with Jessica. “I haven't seen you all summer! Why haven't we hung out lately?” said Jessica with an ammused expression. “Well, I have had a lot to think about over the last few weeks trying to get ready for the end of summer.” I replied. “I guess that's a good enough excuse” her voice rose higher into an exasperated grin “for ditching me when I was about to ask Danny out!” said Jessica. “Sorry, gosh!” I said trying to look pitiful.
Kodie came strutting down the hall with a bunch of papers in her hands while she had a pencil in her mouth. She ran into one of the eighth graders and she fell to the ground. Hard. She cried out in pain as she got up because she landed on her knee. “Ouch!” she cried. “Are you okay?!” the eighth grader asked. “Yeah. I'll be fine.” she replied with a painful look. Jessica and I rushed over to her as soon as she got up. “Oh my gosh! Kodie!” yelled Jessica. “Are you okay?!” I asked suprising even myself that I said it so loud. “I told you” said Kodie. “I will be fine.” she replied. “Whatever.” Jessica said it like she was kidding.
“Well, we'd better get ready for advisory so we're not late...again!” I said to Jessica. She just looked at me like I was being funny. Which I was. “Oh my gosh!” yelled Kodie. We all looked towards where she was looking and Jessica and Kodie gasped as Brendan Hawlkins stode down the hallway with his two best guy friends at his side. I just stood there and admired him in my head because I also liked him but I didn't want anyone to know. He was the best looking guy at my school. Almost every girl in the school loved him. He had sandy blonde hair with a tint of brown. He had dark brown eyes that were green colored. He was normal in height with a muscular build. He had this way of being himself that was very attractive.
“Why can't I have him!?” cried Jessica. “Sucks for you cause I'm going to marry him!” Kodie replied with a smirk. I kept telling myself that there was something different about him. He was different though, in many ways. “I'd like to be with him every day.” said Kodie. I laughed and she looked at me with shock. As I turned around to leave, I ran into Brendan. My heart stopped when I saw him. He looked at me and smiled with that perfect smile. My face grew warm and my stomach went into knots. I smiled and managed to squeak out “Sorry.” I tried to go around him but he caught my arm. Just the feeling of having him touch me was exilerating. I paused and I thought I was going to vomit from the feeling. He pulled me back and he glanced over my shoulder to look at Jessica and Kodie. Their faces were priceless. He then looked at me again and said, “Meet me at the canal bridge at 9:00 tonight. Alone. I have something to tell you. It's important. Very importatnt.” He smiled and walked away. I stood there like and idiot and I was stuck. He just told me to meet him somewhere. Kodie and Jessica ran over to me and shook me from my trance. “Ooh! He just asked you out on a date!” screamed Jessica. “It's not a date. I swear.” I replied. “Oh yeah and I dont have two legs to walk on either.” Kodie said sarcastically. “Shut up!” I said with a smile and walked away. I felt like an idiot the rest of the day.
I started thinking about what Brendan said to me earlier. It made me feel so excited I couldn't contain it. As I was walking into fourth period, a could not stop smiling now matter what it took. I was just sitting down at my desk when one of my good friends named Madi ran up to me and said, “I heard what Brendan said to you!” “It's not that big of a deal. Really.” I replied. “Uh huh.” she said with a smile. Madi is a spunky kind of girl with a heart of gold, but she is also the funniest and quirkiest person I have ever met. She likes a lot of different things than me but we are still really good friends. I like that about her.
