Chapter Three
Yet again, I was invisible as everyone cheered around me, nobody noticed me, nobody noticed I was shaking uncontrollably; maybe because nobody cared; after all I was just an shy, lonely high-school girl, they didn’t know the real me and I definitely did not want them to find out, it wasn’t an option but I had no idea how I was meant to stop Riley from figuring it out; the dude wasn’t stupid and that’s what scared me the most.
“Why don’t you look happy?” Amy asked, after the crowd had finally died down, why wasn’t I happy? That’s was an unanswerable question, one that required a million answers and although I was screaming at her in my head, I couldn’t say a word I was speechless, Amy didn’t know I was Radio Wild and I didn’t want to give her a reason to become suspicious.
“I don’t feel well” I lied, although it wasn’t a complete lie, with Riley’s threat I couldn’t help but feel sick to my stomach, I thought I’d be able to at least finish high school before anyone found out but this was earlier than I thought and I couldn’t help but consider the disappointment my peers will show when they realize it was me all along… boring, mind-numbing Alaina.
However when I looked round, Amy was no longer listening, she was speaking to Riley, I watched her as she gracefully twiddled her hair around her finger, giggling at his every word, she liked him it was plain to see; but I couldn’t help but hate him even more. Riley was a player, someone who romanced and swooned girls then left them high and dry. Amy knew his past but yet she was playing dumb to his charm, it was all going to end badly… I knew that.
“So, Friday night?” Riley asked, grinning, he snaked an arm around Amy’s tiny waist, pulling her closer towards him, I was obviously interrupting something, I decided I’d better leave, although the two of them hadn’t even realized I was still there.
“Hm, or perhaps you can stick to your word?” Amy raised her eyebrows, even I was confused at her comment, usually a date with Riley was every girls dream, every girl in our grade…well all apart from me would jump at the opportunity and I couldn’t help but wonder myself what Amy was doing.
“My word?” Riley asked, he was looking at her bizarrely, probably stunned he’d been rejected, unbelievably it wasn’t something Riley experienced often, he was more likely to get a girl pregnant than he was to get rejected!
“If you do discover Radio Wild’s identity, then I will let you take me on a date” Amy smirked, wriggling out of his grasp, I felt a pang of pride, Amy wasn’t being another girl Riley could toy with, she was in charge and for the first time ever, Riley was in utter shock.
“And only when you find out her identity will you be given permission to take me out” I was shocked at Amy’s behaviour, for once she was the girl challenging the player, the guy who had broken the most hearts in our grade, the guy who had the pearly white smile, and the beautifully tanned skin. Amy wasn’t falling for any charms and it made me realize maybe she wouldn’t be so stupid and fall for him so easily…hopefully.
“Challenge accepted” Riley laughed, and suddenly everyone was listening into their conversation, Riley began to blush a little, he’d just been rejected and tested, he can’t deny it dented his pride and ego a little…unfortunately not enough.
“I’ll see you around then Riley Hall…come on Alaina” Amy began to walk quickly and I scurried after her, I watched as she peeked behind her to see if Riley was still watching her and sure enough he was, he was staring intensely, well he was literally drooling at her ass, sometimes I wondered whether boys were in fact humans…or simply animals.
“Okay, now we are out of sight, did I sound stupid?” Amy asked, she turned to face me, her face was filled with concern, I couldn’t help but try and hide the smile creeping onto my face, it had all been an act yet she was incredibly convincing. Amy began to stare at me nervously, unsure of my answer.
