Monsters are Real

Creepypasta Prompt #4: I'm Not Scared of YouThe boy shivered from under his covers, too scared to peek out and see the tall dark figure in the corner of his room.
He squeezed his eyes shut and clenched his sheets. The false sense of security ebbed away when darkness stole the warmth of his nightlight. The presence loomed heavily over him, and he knew he shouldn't look.
In the agonizing silence, the boy didn't breathe. The gentle ticks of his clock registered in his brain. He thought about peeking.
"Monsters aren't real," he chanted to himself. He lowered the cover enough that only his eyes peeped out.
"Monsters aren't real," he continued, panic rising in his throat as he saw the tall shadow standing next to him. Whip-like tentacles emerged from it; one stroked his head.
White with fear, the boy froze. He desperately wanted to hide under the safety of his covers, to dispel his fears by chanting his mantra, but he couldn't look away from the abnormally tall man stooping over his bed.
His voice caught in his throat when a pale face drew closer, as if to examine him.
"M-m-monsters..." The boy choked when he could only see a smooth surface on what was supposed to be a face.
Then, as the tentacles engulfed him, a sense of calm washed over the boy. His fear subsided, and he was left only with mild childish curiosity. Pushing his sweat-soaked blankets away, the boy sat up on the bed and craned his neck to look at the man who entered his room. Somehow, he understood what the man was saying.
"Monsters are real," the boy voiced with a slight giggle. He took the hand offered to him. "But I'm not scared of you."
He stood, letting the man lead him away.
"There's no reason to be."
