1977, HOGWARTS, THE GREAT HALL

"Well this is unexpected."

Remus's voice startled the petite brunette by the common room fire, her hands frantically tucking the leather bound book underneath her frame. Thea blew the hair out her face and smiled at the boy, awkward leaning back to feign a casual demeanour but failing tremendously.

"Remus! This is a pleasant surprise," the girl's voice broke slightly, a blatant sign that she was fibbing. "Can I help? You?"

Her fragmented syntax caused Remus to chuckle and shake his head, pulling his grey sweatshirt's sleeve over his hands, cocooning them in the warmth. Pointing his index finger at the book she had just hidden, Remus raised a questioning eyebrow, an action which he seemed to do frequently in the presence of Thea.

"Care to explain what you're hiding?" Remus teased her, his tone light and humorous. He wasn't the type of person to pressure anyone into telling him something, but he couldn't help but admit that the fact that Thea, who was open with almost everything, hiding something intrigued him greatly.
