November had flown through and December rolled around very quickly. Jackson hasn't gotten what he wanted out of his relationship with Hannah yet but knows it could very well go his way after the winter formal, which he asked Hannah already to which she agreed to go with him. Clay and Hannah saw each in their classes, in the halls, and at work. Their relationship was good at this point and everything seemed well for both of them. But little did they know what was coming for their way.

Clay was walking to school, today December 23rd, the last day of school before winter break for the teens of the high school. The dance was later that night and Clay was going after he promised Jeff that he would go after missing out on the Homecoming back in October. Clay had also met a new student that is a freshman, his name was Aaron Rodriguez. Aaron was from Miami and he moved with his dad after his parents went through a divorce. Aaron was 15 years old and used to get bullied at his old school especially while 15 due to his initials with his age, "AR15". But this new start for him is probably all he needed. Clay had befriended him and finds his character to be quite different from those around him, considering he comes from a different state. Clay was having a conversation with Aaron about Aaron's weekend with motorsports. Aaron was a Motorsports fanatic and had gone to a few NASCAR races held in Homestead. The one year in the past 5 that he couldn't attend was where his driver won the championship so he was hoping for redemption soon, considering it was last year it happened for Aaron's driver, which is Kyle Busch. Aaron was now getting into his Formula One talks about the dutchman Max Verstappen, when he noticed Jackson talking to his friends, he gives Clay a disapproving look as he looks at him from top to bottom. After Clay passes by, he hides behind a wall and tries to listen to what is being said between Jackson and his friend. "What is it, are we gonna eavesdrop?" Aaron asked curious by his friend's sudden change in action. When Clay nodded and put a finger over his lip to signal him to be quiet, he started to listen.

"She's gonna get it tonight, I'll bet you she will Dylan!" Jackson said with a teasing laugh to his friend. Clay was curious as to what was being talked about. "I'll take you on for that, Hannah Baker hooking up with you for her first time after a high school dance? $20 she's still a 'virgin' by tomorrow." Clay was upset about the bet on Hannah but what he didn't know was the plan behind, he left early to get to class as he felt that he knew all he needed to but he actually didn't, and it would prove to be not so good. Aaron watched Clay leave suddenly, "Wait woah, just like that? Maybe they would've said something else!" Clay turned around for half a second, "I got all I needed to hear." Clay was in class and noticed Hannah wasn't there and soon discovered that she was actually, legitimately, sick from the night before, but was going to be fine for the dance. He couldn't get to warn her. He figures its gonna have to happen during the dance, but will it go good? Like, will it work out? Time will tell, and Clay hoped everything worked out well.

The school day had passed and now Clay was in his room prepping for the dance, got the tux that him and Jeff went to pick out the weekend prior. Clay felt it was "Clay-like" so he got it, he liked the look of a dark blue suit with a black tie and matching pants. It was 6:30 pm as he noticed on his phone so he started to make his way downstairs and meet Tony outside to head to the dance which was at Liberty's own gymnasium. "You look so handsome honey, any date?" Lainie asks her son with an eyebrow slightly raised, Clay tried to play the innocent teen card, and shook his head smiling saying, "Mom, I said im going with some friends." "Fine" said Lainie giving in to her son, "You should probably go outside, Tony is waiting. Have fun Clay!" Clay was leaving mid sentence and as he exited the door he dismisses his mother, "Bye mom, love you!" Lainie says a rushed "Me too!" as the door closes as her son leaves with a friend to a school dance.
