The Mayor of Sav

Dear diary, this is day number 2 of being... alive again? reborn? I don't know. But after breakfast, Anmar told me that today he was going to talk to the mayor about me (oh no) and ask if I could stay here with him (OH NO) also that I had to talk to him myself (OH GOD). To be completely honest with you, I was super concerned about this whole thing, but Anmar seemed completely unfazed, "the mayor is a really nice guy I think" he said "It will PROBABLY be fine" he said... Keima decided to show up too after finally waking up, he told me that if the mayor decided to hang me that he'd make sure to turn me into a comfy rug afterwards (hahahaHAHAHA) anyways, Anmar soon left to go get the mayor, and about half an hour went by where Keima and I practiced sword fighting techniques, sadly I only have 3 pads on each paw, and they're mostly just claw, so actually holding the sword turned out to be a real pain, I eventually "won" by accidentally dropping my sword on his foot. When the mayor finally showed up he walked in on us wrestling on the ground and making aggressive growling noises. I was quite surprised by his appearance though, he was tall and lanky, and not at all dwarfish, he was a scruffy, old looking fellow with short wavy hair and bright green eyes, he wore a rough leather coat and striped stockings, but the most distinctive features were his big pointy ears, and a bright blue crystal pendant around his neck, he was definitely an elf.

He stared at me for a few seconds before saying "fascinating", while turning and immediately hitting his face against a roof beam (oh boy), he introduced himself as Feek, and after seeing the look of confusion on my face (and pain because Keima was still biting my leg), without hesitation he started to tell me his story. Feek used to live on the surface just like any other elf, in a small village at the base of a massive mountain, he was a cave explorer who loved being underground, but because most elves are basic jerks, they told him to stop doing what he loved because it's "unelflike" or something stupid like that, one time after exploring for many days he even found a legendary artifact from deep underground, that had the power to extend life itself, which was promptly taken by the village elders, and used to extend the lives of everyone in the village. Feek felt like he had finally proved to everyone that cave exploring was a great and useful way to spend your time, but they still labeled him as an outcast, and after a while they even started calling him stuff like "Feek the freak" (comedy gold).

So basically one day he was like, "screw this" and decided to just go live underground permanently (definitely the right decision). That night, he was all packed up and ready to go, but there was one more thing he needed to do, when the guards were distracted, he nabbed the life orb and BURNT DOWN THE ENTIRE VILLAGE!!!... (just kidding I actually made that part up, you fool) he actually just ran off towards the dark figure of the mountain, life orb in hand. For months he lived in the caves, always heading deeper and deeper inwards, until one day his life changed dramatically, at the end of the tunnel was an opening into a massive chasm, he had stumbled upon the great shaft. As he traveled down the many pathways going around, across, and down into the depths, he noticed more and more little people on the paths, they all looked at him with wide eyes as they passed, and some of them even stopped to follow him. When he made it to the village of Sav, they were still mourning the disappearance of their old leader, someone simply known as the mirror king. When he entered the village square, all the dwarves in the village had gathered around him, and were whispering to each other in a language completely foreign to him, soon one of the older looking dwarves stepped forward, beckoning him towards a big tower like structure just off of the square.

When he got inside he noticed a massive wooden desk near the back of the room, with a chair that almost resembled a throne sat behind it, along with a few regular wooden chairs in front, there was a spiral staircase going straight up through the center of the tower, and all the walls were lined with bookshelves full of old looking books, from tiny ones that resembled journals to massive dusty tombs, just full to the brim with most likely long forgotten knowledge. The dwarves sat him down at the table and handed him a peculiar looking book, the front of the book was covered in titles for all different kinds of languages, the elven lettering near the top said: "The history of Sav, and it's people". He opened to the first page, which was an index written in the same languages, he was then able to find the elven part of the book which read: "hello my elf friend, I am the one simply known as the mirror king, or M. I originally came down here for my own business, and was surprised to find that some dwarves had decided to take up residence on the path towards my destination, I stayed with them for many nights, and soon fell in love with the ways of the dwarves. They considered me as almost a god, and I fell in love with the luxury they had given me. I soon started work on my castle, using magic created by my people, mirrors are some of the most potent items to use as far as enchantments go, so they are what I based my construction upon, mirror doors for moving around, hand mirrors for communication, and the ark mirror, one of my greatest creations, for opening the gates, created by an impenetrable metal".

The book went on for awhile about life in Sav and the people who lived there, but concluded with the last page saying: "I think I've spent enough time with the dwarves, many years have gone by since I arrived, too many to remember, Sav has grown into a bustling community for underground trade, and I've estimated the permanently settled population to be around 200. they truly are a lovely group of people, but I have not forgotten about my reasons for coming here in the first place, I made a promise to someone long ago, and I intend to keep it. Tomorrow I am leaving Sav behind forever, and will head deep into the depths to find what I seek, if you have just arrived in the village, the dwarves might want to take you in as their new leader, our races share many similarities, and they might think you could be related to me or some such, I've made it easy to learn the dwarven language at the back of this book, good luck, M". Feek explained that soon he was speaking to the dwarves, and decided to take on the role of mayor, he didn't really have to worry about much, but he was there to settle arguments, and after learning many other languages, he could talk to the small amount of foreign visitors that came to Sav. But there was one thing he was obsessed with, finding a way into the mirror kings castle.

He tried everything to open the massive gates at the base of the shaft, he tried having many different races stand in front of the ark mirror next to the gates (or as many as you could find underground), he tried reading passwords in as many languages as he could, and even tried breaking down the doors a few times too, but to not avail. After a time he just went back to reading the books in the tower, hoping that one day, a solution would show itself. "And that's where you come in" he said after finishing reciting his tale to the room, "also if you were wondering this pendant around my neck is the life extending artifact I talked about, although as you can see from the wrinkles in my face, the aging process has finally caught up to me after hundreds of years". It definitely took me a second to process everything he had mentioned, and when I looked up his finger was pointed at me, and he had a strange expression on his face. He told me that since I had come from deep in the shaft, as Anmar had told him, that maybe I was what M was looking for, and I might even be the right person to open the doors to the mirror kings realm.

"That guy really likes mirrors" said Keima, while spitting out the fluff in his mouth, "I really gotta pee now" I said, and that concluded my first experience with the mayor of Sav, see you guys in the next entry.
