PRESENT DAY

I stepped out of the car and onto the sidewalk. I looked upon the house I grew up in and smiled. I was finally home and my family was no longer around to hurt me. Well, my parents are no longer here. They're in a prison cell as of yesterday and that's when I found out that the house was paid for and it now belonged to me.

I stepped onto the porch and unlocked the door. The house was nice and quiet, would have been better if my brother was there, waiting in the hallway with open arms. I sighed and closed the door to the outside but not before a car pulled up. I stared at it and then quickly closed and locked the door when I saw who was getting out of it.

The father of one of the girls was coming to the door. I rushed up the stairs and went to my brother's room. He always kept a gun under his pillow and near the door no matter what. I raced to his bed and took the gun from there. I could hear the banging on the front door and shook slightly as it brought me back to the night I escaped from Verboten and the pounding of my feet.

October 7th, 7:30 pm.

The night sky was awake tonight as I ran through the field into the trees. I was halfway naked, my breasts bouncing as I ran as fast as I could. My bare feet were being scrapped by the rocks beneath me, I held the knife as tightly as I could, crying with pain and happiness as the house neared my vision. It was the closest one and it wasn't occupied by a creepy pedophile who likes to fuck girls who trusted them and murder the people who called him friend.

I finally stopped and looked to the cottage that was far behind me. The lights were on and Verboten was standing on the porch calling for me, promising me that he wouldn't do it again and that he was incredibly sorry.

Lies, all of it was lies and I know that now.

He only saw me as a toy for sex, nothing more.

I looked to the house... more like manor now that I'm closer. It stood dark against the night sky, giving off an ominous feeling. I looked back at the cottage and saw verboten stepping away from the house and beginning to walk toward the house. I raced forward and to the front door. I opened it and closed it quickly before hiding in one of the many rooms presented to me.

The room I entered was a library with no windows but a fire place that was lit and a couch next to it. I breathed with a sigh of relief when I saw that this place wasn't abandon.

I went to the couch and laid down on it, being so grateful for now arms around me or something pushing against me for friction. I laid there for what seemed like an eternity before the front door was banged upon. I heard footsteps descend a pair of stairs I saw earlier and a conversation of words. Verboten was saying that his wife had gone off her meds again and was wondering around. The other guy said that she hasn't appeared near here and that he didn't appreciate being woken up. Verboten apologized and said he won't do it again.

The door closed and I heard footsteps coming toward the library. I sat up and put my knife in front of me. I would not be taken advantage again, not by any man. The door opened and that man from when I first got to the cottage came in. "Calm down, I'm not gonna give you over to Amante. The way you came in told me that you aren't actually his wife.", the man said, his voice deep and dark, like a pool of ink.

"Then what are you gonna do?", I asked quickly, shaking slightly. He sighed and came closer to me. He then keeled in front of me and softly smiled. I calmed down and lowered the knife. "I'll keep you here, in your own room till you feel ready to leave yourself. Then I will get you to a hospital and tell them that a man was chasing you with a knife.", he said softly, taking the knife away from me.

"Am I allowed to know you're name?", I asked quietly, the crackling of the fire making me jump. He chuckled and stood before offering me his hand to help me get up.

"My name is Rob MacBeatha."

Present day

The hammering of fists finally stopped when night fell. The man must have gone home to his wife to tell her that the reason their child is dead is back home. She probably is gonna tell him that I had no choice in the matter and that he should have disciplined her more that way she could have been alive still. The screams would start and then the next day they would apologize to other.

I like the idea of forgiveness the next day. It's something I would never have again so I like the idea that others could.

I got up from my spot against my brother's bed and stretched and walked to the door. "Don't worry, Constance. You'll get it back", I heard my brother's voice behind me. I turned quickly and ... saw no one. But it felt nice that my brother was still a strong memory here. That past imprints were here and will stay till the house was gone.

I felt my eyes spill over with tears and quickly wiped them away. He wouldn't like it that I was crying so much for him. We'll see each other again, he would say. It's not the end of everything. I just kept crying though. It was hard for me to keep the feelings quiet, but I think I could in here. I went to the bed and laid on it. I could feel the indent he left in it and began sobbing loudly into his pillow. My brother was gone forever.
