We went up to the penthouse floor in that rather small elevator. The air between us was restless. 'Understantment of the year there.', I thought, glancing at him from the side. He was stiff and not smiling like earlier, then again I did drop a rather large bomb on him.
40 minutes earlier:
"Wait, you're telling me that Rob and you aren't actually together?", he said, rubbing his temples.
"No, we aren't, its strictly business."
"And you are searching for Verboten to torture him like he did you before turning him to the authorities."
"Correct."
"And you want me to join you on this endeavor because I seem trust worthy?! Constance, do you realize how insane that is?!", he said, wanting to shout but restraining himself from doing so, "Even if your plan works, its half baked and there are so many flaws to where you can get caught!"
"So then what do I suggest I do, huh? Wait for someone to capture him and shovel pills down my throat for the rest of my life? I can't do that! I've already been on that side of the bridge and let's just say it ain't green.", I said, getting frustrated with him. He took off his tinted glasses and looked me dead in the eye.
"If we are going to do this then we are going to be more refined about this. This isn't just a revenge plan anymore, Constance. If you are serious about this, and I mean actually serious about this, we aren't going to go in half ass. We'll discuss this more halfway through the party in my study.", he said, before putting his glasses on once again and taking me to the elevator.
Now:
The elevator doors opened and people seemed to flock to us, giving us hardly anytime to breath. The women dragged me away to talk about how tone I was, how pretty my face was, how sweet I was.
The kind of stuff that people who don't really care about you say.
I was having a difficult time breathing till I felt a hand in mine that dragged me away from the group of squawking women.
When we finally stopped, I saw that it was Lininbin's daughter. "Shocking that my bully from a year ago was saving me.", I said bitterly to her, standing straight with my head held high. She raised an eyebrow at me before huffing.
"To be honest, I didn't really care for most of it. I was just going along for whatever that bitch wanted.", she said, pulling out a jule. I raised an eyebrow at her and she shrugged. "My mom got it for me to stop me from smoking. Bitch doesn't really pay attention to the warning labels on these things though.", she said, taking in a deep breath and breathing it out slow. Her eyes looked glazed over, like she was either sleep deprived or high.
I hung around her a bit, better than being around the women that just wanted to get information that way they can sell it to tabloids. "Sorry about your friend, by the way.", I said, not really meaning it. She then did something I wasn't expecting.
She laughed. It was small and soft, almost like it was half-hearten. "Don't say that please, looking back now it made sense when Verboten called her in and had that smile. You know, she bragged that she was going to bang him one day.", she said, staring down before taking another gulp of vape. I nodded and stood next to her on the wall, looking through the door. "It's funny in a really fucked up way. She screwed everyone up so someone did it to her.", I whispered making Michelle bust out laughing at how brutal that was, then she said something I had never considered, not once.
"You know, she probably just bitched sp much he couldn't hold her for the final event."
"What do you mean?", I asked with a concerned smile and hers fell once more. She took a look around and took me through the back hall to what looked to be a study, taking a look to make sure no one was following before closing the door. "You were never told about the books, were you?", she asked before looking at me with dead serious eyes. I told her about the accounting books but she shook her head and went to a wall, pulling out a worn journal and handing it to me. I looked at her before I opened to the first page and read the words.
' Oh my lord, I saw an angel today, a beauty, a miracle. She was studious and bright unlike that bimbo that always tries to sleep with me. What I wouldn't give to see those eyes light for me in such a desirable way though.'
I quickly dropped the book and fell back away from it, gripping my head as my head swam with memories of what he did to me and what I was often forced to do. I began shaking as my eyes lost focus to my surroundings and felt his breath all over my body, hands on every part of me. I guess Michelle ran to catch me as I finally came out of it, for she was kneeling in front of me crying because she didn't know what to do.
I heard the door open and turned to it as I saw her father there, staring at us in disbelief. "Come on, I asked for you to distract the vultures for me! It's one thi- what happened?", he quickly said as he closed the door behind him. Michelle grabbed the book from behind her and got up from the floor before showing him what it was that set it off. With one look at the cover, he sighed and took it before telling her to leave for we had things to talk about.
Michelle nodded and looked at me one last time before heading back to the party to entertain the predators. "It seems we have things to-"
"Why do you have that journal?", I asked, finally getting up from my crumpled position on the floor. I heard him walk up behind me and place a hand on my shoulder, turning me to face him. He had a grimace on his face before sighing in frustration.
"I have it because it was something that was sent to me by Verboten. I guess he wanted to taunt some of the heads for the fun of it, as a way of saying look what I have.", he explained, handing the book to me in a manner. I hesitated in taking it for I might get another episode, but it didn't set it off again as I held it in my hand.
'Guess the words have a bigger impact on me then the actual thing.', I thought, as I set it down on a table near by. Then I realized that he said something that was... off putting.
"What do you mean by 'The Heads'?"
