Title= Hymns of Damnation
Genre= Short Story/Fantasy
Summary= An extreme good v. extreme evil story. A prince in search of his wolf is stuck with three knights of a neighboring kingdom of light that use him for slaying his pet.
Status= Complete
Warning: I only read the first six chapters.
Impressions:
The first chapter starts off good in the beginning, it explains to you the character's looks without cramming them down your throat and making you choke on them. The second person we are introduced to, the ginger, reminds me slightly of Beowulf, from the movie not the poem, by the description given of him. I like the descriptions as you can imagine the character in your head, or I can at least. The twins seem hopeful and clueless by their actions and it makes me wonder how they became knights. You get a feeling for the other kingdom just by how the king is and the main, I believe, person are. The king is cheery while the prince is dark and kind of insane sounding.Cover:
The cover is alright but I feel it should have a bit more going on? Maybe instead of white and black have a nice, bright color replace the white and keep the black. But it shows what's going on a bit with the wolf. You have to either read the description or the first chapter to understand the cover though. A cover says to you what to expect from the book and to should show it. I believe you could possibly turn the white into someone standing in a bright light, and the black into someone standing in the dark. Keep the wolf/beast though since it's what the characters are after in the first place, or don't it's your choice. Here is two examples.Title:
The title was a bit confusing for me but it definitely made me want to read the book. Your title was a good hook to get you wanting to read the book when the cover would leave you lacking such.Plot:
(I don't count the little poems as chapters for me to analysis) Chapter one hooks you straight away which I LOVE! In chapter three you get to see how corrupt and evil the ghost prince is and how easily he made the oldest knight before enraged. The book at these two points doesn't experience much action but it doesn't bore you either, it still leaves you wanting to read. The eldest night slowly becomes more angry and, perhaps, crazy as the story goes on. I like how you portray the knight as trying to fight the darkness, especially since his kingdom is a light one, but is slowly having trouble because of the ghost prince. Chapter three you see the true ghost prince, he is a crazy person who enjoys watching others suffer. You witness his powerful he truly is. It's kind of sad to see the powerful knight become so lowly and like the story says, broken. The poems were very good parts of the story and I believe hinted some what at the next chapter but I don't say more then that about them.Character:
Ghost Prince: From the beginning to chapter "three" we see him go from obeying and waiting around for his wolf, to taking control of the eldest knight and making him follow his every command. In the beginning we can tell he is crazy and evil, but by chapter "three" we can witness how insane he really is. Seeing this much hidden displayed so quickly and it being fit in so easily is great and I love that, since there is still more chapters to read past what I did to see how much more he evolves.Eldest Knight: The eldest knight appears cocky and to have an ego the size of his head in the beginning, but by chapter "three" he is weak and broken from two single chapters with the ghost prince. He does not grow stronger like the ghost prince, no, but he does still show development which I approve of 100%.
The Twins: The twins don't talk much, but I believe they have a reason. I think they have some sort of speech issue, causing them not to be able to speak or make any sounds. Their innocence and willingness to save an evil stranger from the eldest brother's grasp shows that they are good people are perhaps just stuck in a war they don't want to be in. I hope they show more character development further in, but for now I like them.
Overall:
All together I believe this is a beautifully written story to the point I have read. It follows an amazing plot, it's original for being the generic good versus evil story. It has great characters that have already started to change just in the first few chapters and with 20 parts in total, I can only begin to imagine how it works out at the end. The title fills in the missing hook of the cover which works out well, it leaves you questioning what happens in the story. My only issue is the cover, but the cover doesn't subtract as many points as plot or characters in my rating scale so don't worry there. But the cover could use a bit more detail, I suggest looking at the example above. You may even use them if you like.Scale
