Title= Wickedly Yours
Genre= Historical Romance
Summary=
"Would you honor me with a dance lady Sophia Brighton?"It all started with a respectful request but ended up blooming into something magical, evocative, and deliciously scandalous. Something that irrevocably changed Sophia's life forever.
Something that was better left in the past.
Blake Cavendish, the Marquess of Alton.
Yet years later he has come back barreling into Sophia's life, an explosion of light and color. But he is not there to fetch her, to sweep her off her feet like he once did, oh so long ago.
Instead he's there to court her sister, Colette Brighton.
Thrown into a situation where all three have to face their hearts, face the vicious truths, and face their hidden desires and dreams, it is a catastrophe at its best, waiting for a chance to blow apart and fall through the cracks.
A catastrophe only fate will decide the end of.
Fate, and a little bit of the magic of love.
Status= Ongoing
Impressions: 4/5
The first chapter leaves you grinning when the two siblings chase each other. The details are done beautifully in this chapter. You soon believe the family is either royalty or wealthy with the conversation with the butler. A tricky dialogue let's you know someone is due for a child which is a great way to do so. Finding out it was the mother that was pregnant immediately worried me for the time period this is in. Finding out the father is an abusive drunk makes you worry more for the mother's health. The longer the birth takes the further to the edge of your seat you go is great. Perhaps lessen the beating backstory though as her mother is in labor and in pain and would most likely focus on that alone. Twins being born fills you with joy, which is then ended by the mother slowly dying. Sophia taking the burden of taking care of her three siblings made me feel admiration for the character which is great writing.Cover: 5/5
The cover does a good job of showing you that this is no ordinary romance. The man has a shirt off, showing there could perhaps be a sexual element to it. But the cover does relay that this is a romance. The ball dress reveals the time period this story is set in.Title: 5/5
The title also does a good job of revealing this is a love story. But it hints to you there is some trouble brewing in this story with just one simple word. "Wicked".Plot: 3/5
Sophia dealing with her mothers death and having to become stronger from it is a great plot. We witness the anger she feels in chapter 2 which helps us understand her struggles. Relating Sophia to a servant gives us a great understanding of how she feels deep down. We can already witness Sophia going through the stages of grief. We see her in angry during chapter 2. The book leaves us wondering what it is truly for which is a good way to hook your readers. Nearing the end of chapter 2 though, I started to grow bored of the misery on misery on misery. I know her mother passed, but with such long chapters it can grow old. Sophia finds a sexual book which gains her interest but I was still found growing bored. Sophia crawls out of her depression and misery it seems in chapter 3, causing us to be somewhat interested again. We catch a glimpse of someone who will perhaps be Sophia's first love, which intrigues is us a bit but nothing interesting happens in the story yet, making boredom overcome me again. The way chapter 3 ends off leaves you hooked which is good, with the simple lines, "the trouble started. And boy was it wicked.". Therefore, I will end my plot review here so you can see what sort of trouble starts.Character: 5/5
Sophia: Sophia evolves quickly in just 3 chapters. Chapter one she is a fun loving girl who enjoys time with her sister. Then her mother dies and her world is flipped upside down. Chapter two she is trapped in a state of misery and despair. Her life is passing her by and she's just stuck in a big storm of emotions. Chapter three we see the old Sophia reveals herself, she's having fun and dancing the night away but we also see her being more mature, craving love, and accepting her responsibility to be married to someone she doesn't truly love even if she doesn't want to.Colette: Colette is exactly how we expect her to be, childish and care free even after her mother's death. She has mourned her loss but in chapter two we get to see the happiness fade a bit because of how Sophia lashes out. We see her somewhat scared and sad.
Twins: The Twins I won't rate at all since they are just babies.
Overall:
Overall this story is well written with details but at some points the details just become too much. The story becomes boring and tiring to read. Eventually the misery Sophia feels becomes to bore us as well. But chapter 3 makes up for that entirely. We have fun with Sophia, we get irritated with some men she spends time with, but we feel her emotions along side her. We see how hard she is taking the loss of her mother and the burden of the family caretaker. The characters are well written, but the plot being so mundane and the first impression you get leaving you with a cluster of emotions near the end gives this story a better scale, but it receives less then it deserves all because of the first 3 chapters. The title and cover swoop in and save this story from getting a score lower then I believe it should have for how much time the author obviously put into this story.Scale: 3/5
The plot being 3/5 and the impressions being 4/5 really slam this story's scale down like a punch to the gut which saddens me because I feel bad to give such a low score. But remember, it could always be just 1/5.
