Before getting into the details of the celebration of Durga Puja in a traditional way let us look back and find out the tradition of Durga Puja. Ramchandra wanted the blessing of Durga before getting into the war Ravana for rescuing Sita from Lanka. Durga Puja was to be done with 108 blue lotus amongst which Rama could gather only 107. He offered one of his eyes to Durga which looked like a blue lotus. Then the worship started from Saptami and ended up in Dashami when Ravana got killed by Ramchandra's warship was different from the conventional one and henceforth known as Akaal Bodhan. These days Akal bodhan is celebrated as traditional Durga Puja by everybody with a lot of grandura.

Durga Puja is most widely celebrated the festival in West Bengal irrespective of social status and religion. Ladies who prefer attires other than sari would prefer wearing sarees for five days of Durga Puja. Now different sarees are required to wear on different days of Puja. The wide range of sarees are available in showrooms and boutiques to cater to different type of people in the state. The demand for (muslin and cotton) and different type of handloom sarees are very high for this festival in our country.
