A raven flapped its wings quickly, soaring through the air and swiveling around trees.
The raven had a sleek midnight black color, which was the same color as its eyes. It arrived at its destination, and flew down slowly.
Maleficent, his mistress, noticed the raven's arrival and waved her hand. Magic flowed out and went to it.
The raven shape shifted into its other form, which was a man, and bowed.
"Good morning, Mistress," he said.
Maleficent smiled,"Good morning Diaval."
The faerie Maleficent had saved his life from being killed by a farmer, by turning him into a man.
The man, who called himself Diaval, told her that he would be her servant for life. And that he would be whatever she needed.
And Diaval still remembered those words, "Wings, you'll be my wings."
It had been a day after Aurora's coronation as the Queen of the Moors. So Maleficent and Diaval both felt particularly cheerful and happy.
"How is Aurora?" Maleficent asked.
"Doing well." Diaval answered, chuckling.
Maleficent raised an eyebrow. "What's so funny?"
"She's in a mud fight."
Maleficent smiled, "And she's losing isn't she?" she asked between laughs.
Diaval nodded.
He looked at his mistress. She looked more beautiful, smiling. Her emerald green eyes twinkled like two precious gems. And her horns, they were so majestic.
Maleficent became aware that Diaval was staring at her intently. She blushed a little. But she was suddenly overcome with worry for him.
"Diaval?" Maleficent asked, "Are you okay?"
Diaval blinked, and saw Maleficent looking into his eyes with concern.
"Yes Mistress, I'm quite fine." he said.
Maleficent sighed with relief.
The shapeshifter smiled weakly. He then wanted to ask Maleficent something that he wanted to ask her ever since they had saved Aurora.
"Mistress?"
"Yes?"
"Do you-" Diaval's burning question was interrupted by the sound of footsteps.
"Fairy Godmother!" a female voice called out.
Maleficent laughed a bit, even after two weeks she was still getting used to that nickname.
"Yes Aurora?"
"I lost in a mud fight." Aurora said, walking towards them.
"I've heard," muttered Maleficent.
Aurora's feet made 'squish' sounds every time she took a step. Aurora was covered with mud all over, dress and all.
Aurora saw Diaval beside Maleficent. "Oh hi Diaval!"
"Good day to you Princess," he replied, bowing his head slightly.
"Good day to you too," said Aurora, curtsying. Mud slipped from her dress and dropped to the grass with a 'plop'.
"Well, well," Diaval said, "that's a lot of....uh....mud you have there."
"You don't say," said Aurora. She was a sixteen year old girl with bright blue eyes and long blonde hair.
"I'm just going to clean myself up," Aurora said, skipping away.
Diaval opened his mouth to say something.
"Don't you dare say anything Diaval," Maleficent threatened playfully.
"How'd you read my mind?" he asked, trying not to smile too much.
Maleficent glanced at Diaval. "I've been with you for sixteen long years, how can I not?
Diaval thought about her answer for a moment, "Good point."
There was silence.
Diaval remembered the question he wanted to ask her so badly. "Mistress," he said, "I've been meaning to ask you this."
But Maleficent interrupted, "Ask me later Diaval." She turned away from him.
"But-" Diaval's protesting came short ("Squawk, squawk!") because his mistress worked her magic on him. She had transformed him back into his original form: a raven.
Diaval flapped his wings and hovered over Maleficent. He waited for her to turn him back into a human.
"Now go, I need some time alone." said Maleficent.
Diaval obeyed unwillingly and started to leave. But he looked back at Maleficent with a sad look before flying away.
As he flew over the Moors, his unanswered question still lingered in his mind, "Do you still need me? For I need you."
End
