The Knock That Changed Everything

Once she locked eyes with me, I had hopped behind the couch. How in the hell is she real? All of sudden, there was loud banging coming from the front door. "Elli! I know you're there! Open up." a melodic voice rang out. Why do they want my mother? Didn't they know she was dead?

The door came off its hinges and crashed to the ground.

Why hadn't I come out of my shock and realize Rose started attacking the door? Why hadn't I done anything when she walked around the door she demolished and into a house that had more doors she could attack.

"I hate doors." the voice sighed staring at the smashed cadaver of my front door. The character who I knew my entire life stood in my living room. Queen Rose. With flaming red hair, pale skin, burnt and rusted armor with her crest; an eagle with sword and flower in both talons; sitting in the middle, and sword on her hip. She was exactly how my mother described her. I wanted to say something to her. Anything really. Why are you here? HOW are you here? Why did you ask for my dead mother? I couldn't.

I was so in shock that all I could do was stare over the couch. She finally found me playing a bad game of hide and seek.

"Eli, the kingdom needs you. Everything's gone wrong." Rose whispered the last part with horror and sadness in her eyes.

After having a very intense mental fight with myself, I rose from behind the couch and said something that could break her into millions of pieces, "I'm not Elli."

"Stop messing with me... This isn't the time for pranks," Rose sighed.

"I'm telling you I'm NOT Elli. That was my mom and she's dead. Has been dead for 5 YEARS now." I practically screamed. Losing hope in her eyes, Rose crashed to the ground with a loud clunk. Couldn't she just leave already? I guess not until I give her what she wants. "I can still help though," I muttered.

She slowly started to look up at me. "Do you mean that?" she asked skeptically.

"Yes, I mean that. Talk to me. What's going on? What's wrong with Anveres?" I questioned sitting down on the couch.

Rose followed suit standing next to me. I guess the armor made it hard to sit down. "So Elli told you everything, huh? I can't believe she's dead. I'm sorry for your loss," she said putting a steel-clad hand on my knee.

"I'm sorry. I'm still as sad as you are. And yeah, she told me just about everything except why you're here, that it's all real, and that you two know each other," I tried to catch Rose's eye but she was surveying the light blue room that had a touch of my mom's decorating skills (which was none).  "Rose..." I paused. It felt weird to say her name. Didn't feel right. "How is this all real?"

She stared at me for an uncomfortable amount of time. "So many questions so little time..." Rose sighed. "I can't answer how I'm real. Someone else on my side can do that for you. Right now, you just need to know the basics."
Rose paced around the room avoiding my eyes and took a large breath "The Anveres you knew and loved is not the same anymore." It was my turned to be shocked and broken. I rose up from my seat and walked towards her.

"What do you mean? How? What happened to Anveres?" Rose placed her hands around my hands around my shoulders and gave me a soft, pitiful look. It was my turn to grieve.

"Rita, please listen and I'll explain everything and answer all your questions. Okay?" Rose whispered. She gave off a motherly and caring aura even when she looked ready for a battle. I shook my head yes and made my way back to my vacated seat. "Two or three years ago, a cruel man waged war on my kingdom days before my parent's funeral. He took over the throne and I had to run away. All the rulers are now fueled by anger and greed. All of them want more and more power. All the citizens are dying. I've been trying and trying to take back. I need Elli more than ever. She was the only true diplomat that would get the kingdoms to listen but alas, I came too late." I had noticed Rose's voice cracked and tears starting to form in her emerald eyes before she again stared at the ground. Her and my mom must have been so close...

"What do I have to do?" I muttered. The idea that Anveres was dying and needed my help bore a hole in my heart. I would do everything  to protect the kingdom and keep my mother's words alive. Her heart, joy, and soul.

Rose looked up and cracked a toothy grin with tears still coming down. "Help me cause a war," She laughed.

Oh lord.....
