The sweet, savoury flavor of strawberry filled Penelope's mouth. She watched the man below as she sucked on a straw of a milk carton. Her eyes glowed of eagerness. If anyone were to see her right now, they could tell how she looked like a leopard hiding in a bush, waiting for its prey.
Johan stood on the ground floor below with a fellow male teacher by his side. They seemed to be deeply conversing about something. Though at times, Johan's expression would turn red in anger and hit his friend, while the latter would continue laughing. It was clear to see that he was being teased by the matter of their topic.
Penelope watched the scene unfold before her coldly. She crushed the carton in her hand with no remorse. A vein popped out on her forehead.
She grabbed the closest classmate she could find and pulled them near. Their face shifted into surprise.
"Hey! Is our math teacher, Mr. Johan gay?"
Penelope let out her thoughts.
Her classmate's eyes widened. He bursted out laughing by the sudden question. He wondered what was up, but to think she asked something unexpected.
"Haha. From what I know, he's not. Why don't you ask him in case I'm wrong?"
Penelope heaved a sigh of relief. Seeing Johan and the other teacher converse, it felt like flowers and sparkles were sprouting from the background (Only in Penelope's mind would that happen).
"That's good. It would be harder for me if he had a different sexual orientation. Though I'd still go after him regardless of that."
While Penelope regained her self-confidence, the classmate remained and continued to chat with her.
"But anyway, you were amazing during our first period. Did you know that we call Mr. Johan, 'Math Demon'? It was the first time we saw him break out in cold sweat! Thanks for the good show!"
"Hm. Yeah. You're welcome." Penelope replied half-heartedly. Now that she got the answer to her question, she felt the human in front of her was of no use anymore.
If Penelope had parents, they would surely cry buckets of tears when they find out her thought process.
After hearing them, another classmate jumped in the conversation. "Yes! You we're so cool! I don't like that teacher's superior attitude at all! Good thing you got him off his high horse!"
"Oh hey! I agree! It felt so good seeing him with a dumb face!"
"Penelope, you we're awesome! Not are you only pretty, you're also smart! I admire you!"
"Hey, do you wanna have lunch together with us, Penelope?"
Seeing so many people crowd around her, Penelope's head started to hurt. Just from a single event that happened, she was suddenly popular. She never asked for this. While the commotion was going on, she hastily slipped out and ran away. She immediately went to the stairs leading down to the ground floor.
....
"Pant, pant."
Penelope leaned against a tree while catching her breath. Thanks to her powers, she managed to stay hidden and unnoticed by the others.
"I will never understand humans."
From her pocket, she pulled out her phone. It was one of it's own, the newest edition of the month. Throughout all the centuries, the one thing Penelope always tries but fails to keep up with was human technology.
