When the carriage pulled up to the palace, I tried not to let my nervousness show.  I had never been inside the Governor's Palace before, not even for a ball, let alone a private invitation to tea with Lady Dunmore. The carriage driver stopped in front of the palace gates and the driver got out to help my mother and I out. He walked with us to the front door.
