Chapter Four

Liam got out his car and handed the keys to the valet. It was a long busy day and he finally got a chance to slip out and get some much needed rest. For the past three days, there have been negotiations of buying the French company he had been eyeing for a while. He never backed down at an opportunity and it was the reason why he was in France just last week. He was known for his ruthlessness and determination when it came to business and finally the French company caved in and sold for a very reasonable price.

He left his workers and partners preparing for a celebration later that week but he was in no celebration mood. He still had to clear the air with Isabella.

Having her angry with him tore at him like a business deal that just wouldn’t close. He knew how to speak business. He knew the ups and downs of it and how to go around a bad deal but he had no idea where to start with a woman.

With the other ladies in his life, a simple designer dress, a diamond necklace or a new car would do but with Isabella it was something entirely different. She didn’t like material things. Whatever someone did for her had to come straight from the heart or out of kindness but not because they felt obligated to.

When he called Stella that morning to check up on her, the housekeeper told him that she had been at the pool all day. Liam expected her to be at the penthouse's private pool but instead Stella told him she was at the public pool downstairs. Liam stood outside the pool gate trying to find the right words to say to her. He never had to explain himself before. He was learning a new side of himself everyday because of her and at times he felt like he always needed her approval. He missed the way her eyes shone when he made her laugh. He missed her jests and her pats on his shoulder. That was as far as she got to touching him but it sent his world crushing down around him.

Though she was very much upset with him, Isabella always did what he asked. He was happy when he discovered that she never went out that entire week because he said so but at the same time he dreaded ever opening his mouth and saying those words.

It was like trying to tame a beautiful jungle cat and caging it. Sooner or later its soul faded and it became only the shadow of what it once was.

Liam gripped the gate tightly and swung it open. He scanned the area and he was relieved to find a handful of people. Most were around the floating restaurant nearby the pool eating and chatting with friends. A couple of children were playing canon ball in the pool while their guardians rested on the rest chairs around the pool.

He spotted Isabella without difficulty. He could notice that blue-black mane even in the middle of the night. She was half in the pool with her arms folded out on the towel she laid on the tiles. Her back was to him but her face was slightly turned to the side and he could see the large sunglasses she had on and the hanging earphones. She floated drowsily as her head bobbed to the music she was listening.

Liam’s mouth went dry as his hands curled into fists. There was so much skin to be seen. She wore a sky blue bikini and Liam had the privilege of seeing that honey skin of her back and the beautiful curves she had. It was more than enough to make him harden in his pants. She was flawless and enchanting, like a siren waiting to call on a mindless sailor to his doom. Liam wanted to turn and leave. He wasn’t going to be able to control himself with her in front of all those people. He looked back at the gate and as he turned, he felt her hazel gaze on him.

When he turned towards her, her eyes snared him in place. She had removed her dark shades and they were over her head. Her eyes drank him in shamelessly. They were mesmerizing and shone with that particular light that he was fond of. He felt like a little boy again; frozen with sheer excitement and longing.
