It's 7:09am on a Monday morning and I'm currently driving to my new college, away from my home and family, freedom at last! I had said my goodbyes to my Mom and brother, my Mom sobbing as I packed the last of my stuff into the boot of my black mini, clutching onto me tightly in a long hug before I finally got into my car and drove away. My best friend Michael was driving in front of me in his car, partially because I'd get lost as me and technology don't always work out. I was so excited to start college with my best friend. I'd known Michael since high school and ever since we'd been inseparable, he often stayed around my house a lot and my mom considered him as a part of the family, giving him his own key to our house.

We had been driving for what seemed like hours so I decided to give Michael a call through the Bluetooth to annoy him.

"What do you want Mush" Michael laughed, he'd always called me mush sort of a nickname he gave me without asking, I hated it and he knew I did.

"Are we nearly there yet, I'm boreddddd" I whined in a high pitched childish voice.

"About 5 minutes I think, stop being a whiny bitch and let me listen to my music" he laughed again the hung up.Michael loved music, he was always into guitar and singing and often played me some of the songs he had written and they were amazing (no bias).

This car journey was definitely not 5 minutes, but after about 30 we finally turned into a large campus, decorated with large buildings and welcome banners for the new students. My mind wandered in awe nearly running over a poor campus guide who was crossing the road shit.

We both parked our cars up next to each other in the college car park and I started to make the was to my boot when Michael grabbed the car keys off me.

"Here, you and go get signed in and get your room keys and I'll carry your boxes to the office, go!" Michael offered, I just turned on my heels and chuckled to myself, sometimes that boy was just too kind to me but other times he can be a complete dickhead.

I made my way into the welcome desk of the college campus to be greeted by a long queue, the building around my was made out of glass so while I stood I started out the window, secretly judging the passers by. A small hint of red and black caught my attention making me do a double take to see a tall boy stride past the building with a box in his hand, his cold blue eyes looked straight into mine then he looked away.

"NEXT" the woman yelled making me stumble, I walked over to the counter

"Lil-ly Wat-ters" I said trying to clear my throat, I'm so awkward god

"Pardon" she spat

"Lily Waters"

The woman handed me my keys and a welcome pack and abruptly shouted "NEXT" in my ear making me jump yet again.

I took out the campus map from my welcome pack whilst walking slowly back to Michael who clearly hadn't arrived at the office yet when I walked into someone and found myself slammed back onto the ground. It was the boy I'd seen earlier and the glimpse of red and black was his flannel which was tied around his waist. He was also on the floor and He had seemed to have dropped a cardboard box he was carrying, leaving the contents sprawled across the floor.

"Oh shit, I am so sorry" I said nervously

He began to collect his things together quickly and looked up at me with a blank expression on his face and then looked back down to the things he was collecting. I began to help him and picked up an old black book with a blank cover, he quickly snatched it off me and placed it on top of his now full cardboard box and quickly walked off. When he was about 5 metres away he turned around, now walking backwards, winked at me with a cheeky smile, then continued walking forwards.

I was still on the floor when Michael walked over to me carrying one of my boxes in one hand and putting the other over his eyes and squinting so he could see me clearer.

"Why are you on the ground Mush" Michael questioned

"Oh I jus- never mind" I cut myself off, getting up off the ground dusting myself off.

"Here take this and I'll go and get my keys, wait here okay" Michael slowly jogged off to the welcome desk.

I found a small bench about 2 metres from where I was stood and placed the box down next to me as I sat down. I closed my eyes and took in the fresh air until an unusual discussion I overheard caught my attention

"Mom just go home, I'm going to be fine" A dark brown haired boy spoke whilst walking backwards away from his mom, facing her as he tried to escape

"I love you Cal, ring me every night promise?" The woman stood waving looking sadder than a lost puppy

"Mom" he growled with an irritated tone

"Love you" she yelled again as her son walked off into the distance, stopping before he turned the corner and waving to her and then disappearing.

I honestly felt sorry for the poor woman, it must be hard watching your child grow up and freeing them into the big wide world. I felt the same way about my Mom, she's done everything for me and now I'm just leaving like that. I promised I'd visit her every holiday and ring her at least once every other day but I know she'd try to ring me at least once a day and cry down the phone about how her youngest child is now at college. When my brother went to college it wasn't the same, partially because she still had me, but then he dropped out and came home and got a job at video game store whilst trying to pursue a singing career.

Michael came striding over wiggling his eyebrows

"Where is your room?" Michael said whilst sitting down next to my box of belongings.

"Um I'm in 42 E North West Blue" I said pointing to the map

"I'm not far away I guess" Michael said pointing to a building that was about 7 buildings away from mine.

"I'm 106 A North East Green" Michael spoke again now trying to figure out the map

I giggled to myself when he hit me lightly in the arm which made ma laugh even more.

"C,Mon, you go drop that box off at your room and meet me back at the car and well carry the rest up to yours and then the same for mine" Michael spoke whilst hopping up from the bench and walking away, God that boy was so energetic.
