The evening was painted in colors and silence. The nature was in its full glory as different songs from birds filled the air. Pink dominated the evening sky while the yellow and purple fought for a place in the sky. Soft breeze sang through the air brushing the trees in the forest and carrying their scent of wood and fresh earth around. A woodpecker perched on a small tree and curiously watched the group of humans below. Growing bored, it flew away in search for a meal.
"All right guys, gather round" Sarah's voice boomed from the middle of the campfire.
I crept out of my sleeping tent with the girls to see what was happening. Sarah, on seeing us, motioned with her hands for us to come forward. Slowly, lazy teenagers gathered round her. Mrs Martins was by her side in a black turtle neck top and camo pants.
"So I and Mrs Martins decided to let you guys have a little fun since it's your second day here" Sarah said smiling. Murmuring came from every corner as we thought about what Sarah's definition of fun was.
"Do we get to stay in the fancy cabin" a guy named Josh who was also one of Brooke's friends asked. He received approval from the others and shook Brooke's hand.
I rolled my eyes at their gesture and focused on Sarah.
"No" Sarah answered. Whines could be heard from the crowd and I chuckled softly.
"Mrs Martins and I have organized a little game I like to call "Get the flag" which is originally known as "Capture the flag" but with a little twist for you guys that emphasizes on teamwork and cooperation" she said smiling.
We all including me groaned when she had told us her idea. I would like to go back to sleep and not play some stupid game of 'teamwork and cooperation' thank you very much.
"In the forest is a hidden flag. You will be divided into six groups with five team members each. The first group to find the flag wins. Step forward to pick a number. Your chosen alphabet is team's alphabet" she explained gesturing to a large bowl with carefully folded papers in it.
At the end of the day, I, Piper, Grace, a girl named Angela and Lacy were in the same group.
"Ugh... Of all people to get placed with" I groaned. I heard Piper and Grace snickering behind me.
Lacy frowned before smirking at me. "Looks like I have been placed in the right team as with the looks of it, you girls are in need of a leader" she said flipping her hair.
"Yeah you are right Stacey" Sarah said as she moved closer to us, smiling. She sent a wink towards me and I smiled and winked back at her. I like her.
"It's Lacy and I know. Am always right. So I think with no further ado, we should introduce the leader to the team members" Lacy said smiling sweetly at Sarah.
Sarah beamed at Lacy.
"Brilliant idea Lacy" she complimented Lacy who smiled smugly at us. "For team A, you team leader will be someone who is charismatic and friendly-"
"Which are definitely not what to define Queen bitch over there. More like bitchy and slutty" Grace whispered loudly causing us all except Lacy and Sarah who was chuckling softly to start laughing.
Lacy glare bore into my skull but I ignored it. Am not the one who insulted her, I just laughed at her. That's all.
"-Anyway" Sarah continued after the laughter had died down.
"Your team leader is...... Timelia Fortez" she announced and left after sending me a mischievous wink.
I was dumbfounded. The girls and Angela congratulated me while Lacy walked over to me in rage.
