I wake up an hour later, and decide to go out for a bit. I actually curl my hair, put on makeup, and pick out a fashionable outfit! I put on a black turtleneck sweater dress and black heeled ankle boots. I adjust my oval necklace from Alice and tuck it under the dress. I grab my purse, and hop in the minivan. This feels wrong. I think we need a fun car. "Well, no time like the present!" I say out loud, and pull out of the driveway. I drive to the nearest dealership, walk my way inside through the snow, and walk up to the desk. "Hello, I would like to look at your sports cars." I say, removing my big, black sunglasses. The man stares at me kind of shocked, and I smile a dazzling smile. "P-please f-f-follow me." He says nervously and stumbles around for a key before leading me into a locked room. Inside, there are rows of cars. Lamborghinis, Porsches, Ferraris, you name it. My eye is drawn to a jet black Bugatti. I walk over, the man following behind me, and look inside. This is the one. My badass car. Just what I need to feel like myself again. I've been significantly less badass lately. "I'll take this one." I state and look straight into his eyes. "That's 3.5 million dollars." He says, shaking his head, doubting I have the money. I do have the money, but this seems more fun, I think to myself. "I think it's worth nothing." I say, staring into him, using my powers of compulsion. "It's worthless. It's yours." He states, monotone. Then he snaps out of his trance and rushes over to a box. He punches in a twenty digit code, and pulls out the keys to my new car. He hands them to me with a smile, and I thank him before sitting down in my brand new wheels, and swerving out of the garage. I speed out of the parking lot, past my minivan, and onto the road. I'm pushing 90mph when I get a call from my father. "Hello Alexa! Where are you? We've just gotten home." He says on speaker phone. "Oh, I had the urge to go out, so I bought a new car." I state calmly, very proud of my reclaimed badass attitude. "You did!" He says, obviously shocked. "Well I didn't buy it. Let's just say the man was very compelled to gift it to me." I say with a light laugh. "Alexa... what did I teach you about your powers?" He says, sounding very old manish. I roll my eyes and say, "actually nothing, remember. Oh! Sorry! No hard feelings!" He sighs and I hold back my laughter. "Anyways, could one of you run to the dealership and pick up the mini? I'm going to lunch with a friend." I say, even though I one- don't have any friends, and two- highly doubt I will find someone who I desire to be friends with. Alaskans are too nice. I need someone bitter, and a little dark. But still nice, you know? "Yeah, yeah. I'll go get it in a minute. Will you be back in time to get your kiddos?" He asks and I smirk. "Of course! What kind of a mother would I be if I wasn't!" I say as a cut off eight cars and exit to town center. The same place we took the kids that one time when I was still pretending to be a student. I hang up the phone with a quick goodbye, and park the car. I slam the door behind me, and walk into Market Square. I haven't been here since the vampires came into town. Snow still lines the streets, and twinkle lights dangle from trees in the shape of icicles. Christmas is over, everyone is back in school. Except for Seth and I. We quit. High school was surprisingly even less enjoyable the second time around. I decide to just get a coffee and sit in the little park in the middle of the square. I scan the rows of shops for the best option and my eyes on The Lilac, that place Seth chose. Will this rock and roll cafe have coffee? Probably not, but I mean rock and roll. I step into the building walk to the counter. There is an older man working, white hair and glasses and all. "What can I get you?" He asks, looking at me like I'm out of place. "Have any coffee?" I ask and he nods. "Black okay?" He asks and I smile. He disappears into the kitchen. I turn around to check out the place again, but find a boy standing obnoxiously close to my face. "Alexa! What's up! Why weren't you in school this morning, beautiful." He says and I immediately recognize this idiot as Seth's friend James. "Hello James." I say with an eye roll. "I see we didn't get any nicer over the break. That's okay, didn't scare me off then, won't know." He says cockily and I momentarily debate flashing my fangs at him. "Well you won't have to put up with me anymore. Seth's and I graduated early. Our old school got our credit sent over, and it added to more than we need!" I say with a smile and his face falls. "What! You didn't want to stay? Finish the year?" He says, insulted. "Nope." I say popping the P. "I'm sorry! But that's just not acceptable. I can't not see you!" He says and I gag. "You're seeing me right now, are you not?" I challenge and he laughs. "That's not what I mean and you know it." He says, moving closer to me. I step to the side quickly and look at him. "You're not gonna quit are you?" I ask and he shakes his head. "Fine. Seth is away for a few weeks visiting friends, but when he gets back we can hang out. The three of us. Not a date. At all. No offense but that's NEVER going to happen." I say shaking my head and he perks up. "Fine! Next month there is a huge party at this junior's lake house. I'll text Seth when I know more. Or you could give me your number.." he starts, leaning close to my face again. I shove my hand in his face and push his chest away. I mouth, not gonna happen, and grab my coffee as the old man appears again. I thank the man, leave a tip and try to leave James. "I'll see you then, Alexalicious." He says with a smirk and I roll my eyes. "Goodbye James" I say sassily, my back to him as I walk out of the door. I change my mind about the bench as it starts to rain, and decide to just head home. Can't hide from the vampires forever. And, I wouldn't want to be late to pick up my kiddos. I speed home and pull into the garage, sitting there for a moment before going in the house to face them all.
