The Next Morning

You wake and see Gabe lying next to you. The memory of last night hits you in waves - yelling at Jack, running down the hallways, knocking on Gabe's door... being inside Gabe's bedroom with Gabe inside you. A content smile spreads across your face.

Suddenly, you hear a loud pounding on the door that can only belong to one person. You practically jump out of bed and begin scrambling to pull your clothes on. You're starting to panic a little when you feel a warm hand on your shoulder. You look up and Gabe gives you a reassuring smile.

"Be confident in your decisions, (Y/N). You don't want Jack controlling your life forever, do you?"

You shake your head. Gabe places his thumb and forefinger under your chin.

"Do you regret last night?"

Your eyes widen in surprise.

"No! Last night was... amazing. I couldn't have imagined it happening in a better way."

Gabe places a gentle kiss on your lips.

"I'm glad. I enjoyed getting to know you." He winks. "Now show Jack that you don't care about what you did, in fact, you're proud. He won't be able to touch you."

Your brow creases as a new thought enters your mind.

"But Gabe... what if he hurts you?"

Gabe pulls you into a hug.

"He won't; we've been friends for too long. He'll be mad for a little while, and he might throw a punch or two, but it's nothing I can't handle. Let's be honest, we both know he probably deserves to hit me at least once. Just remember, he's your brother and my best friend; it's only because he cares."

You nod and take a deep breath. Then you stand up straight and give Gabe your best confident, IDGAF smile.

"Okay, let's do this."

You stride to the door and press a button. The door slides open, revealing Jack's angry face on the other side. You take a moment to look at him and decide he doesn't look as angry as you initially thought. He definitely looks upset, worried, perhaps even a bit guilty. You lean against the door frame, trying to appear casual.

"Morning, Jack."

"Don't you "morning" me, I've been looking all over for you! Athena said you weren't in your room last night and now I find you here. What the hell did you do?"

"Hmm, wouldn't you like to know?", you said with a chuckle. You tried to push past him, but Jack grabbed your arm preventing you from leaving.

"Didn't I warn you about the dangers of making rash, stupid decisions while you're emotional? You're going to get hurt, and I won't always be there to protect you."

Face flushed with anger, you whirled to face him.

"The only one hurting me here is you! Recently I realized that I'm an adult who can make my own damn decisions, and for your information, I never wanted your protection, Jack; I just wanted your love and respect! You better realize that soon or you just might lose me forever."

You brush past Jack, refusing to look at him, and start down the hallway towards your room.

Jack looks at Gabe with a sigh.

"Were you good to her at least?"

"You already know the answer to that, Jack."

"Fine, but I'm warning you, break her heart and I'll break your face."

You reach your room and throw off your clothes, heading for the shower.

As the warm water runs down you, you consider how you are feeling. Mixed emotions swirl inside you like one of Mei's blizzards. Standing up to your brother had made you feel nervous, angry, determined, and even a bit excited to finally be fighting for what you want. As much as your brother annoyed you with his constant overbearing nature, deep down in your heart you know he truly loves you. You hope that he would consider your words and understand that you still want him in your life, but as a brother not a father. Will he be willing to compromise his rules for the sake of your relationship, or will he be too stubborn to relent? Only time will tell, you think.

You step out of the shower and begin drying off with your favorite (t/c) towel. As the soft fabric swipes down your body, you consider Gabriel. You had really enjoyed last night, and not just because it was your first time. Something about Gabriel doing those things to you just felt so right, you can't imagine being intimate with anyone else. At the same time, however, you aren't sure if you want to be in a relationship, especially now that you have just declared your freedom from the "relationship" that was your brother's parenting ways. You want to be honest with Gabriel, but what if he thinks you're shallow for not wanting to date? What if he thinks of you as just some slut that is trying to use him? Your brow furrows as a new thought enters your mind. What if Gabriel only thinks of you as some slut that HE is using? It was true you had never stopped to consider how he felt about you. Maybe he still thinks of you as Jack's kid sister, and sleeping with you had simply been a favor. You suddenly felt stupid for assuming that last night had been as special for him as it had been for you. He's probably been with dozens of girls, you sigh, why would this one time be any different than all the others?

By the time you've gotten dressed, you have a plan. The only thing to do would be to meet with Gabriel and try to gauge his feelings while also finding an opportunity to tell him how you felt.

You step out into the hallway, closing your door behind you, when you hear your stomach growl. Maybe Gabriel can wait, you think. You decide to head to the mess hall, trying to convince yourself that this isn't an avoidance tactic. After all, you are actually hungry... You just also aren't complaining about putting off that conversation.
