After ten minutes of awkward silence they had finally arrived at the high school. Journey stepped out of the car and took a deep breath of the air around her and stared at the school and thought to herself for a second. She started thinking of when she first stepped foot on the high school grounds.
It was her first day at the brand new high school. The school was much bigger than her middle school. It was, after all, the biggest high school in the state of California. Never seeing or being in the school before is bound to get anyone lost. Her best friend Katherine was in normal classes for freshmen and Journey was in higher classes from highly intelligent like her eldest brother. This meant she had to travel from the freshmen building to the sophomore building. It was connected to the Junior building so it was really easy to get lost there. Sadly, that was the building most of Journeys classes were in. While she was walking over to the building looking for her next class, she found herself, with no surprise lost. While she was stressing out looking for her class, a boy had noticed and walked over to help her. That's when she met him. Her new best friend. Before he made his way to her some jerk had bumped into her and knocked all of her books out of her hand. The boy quickly ran over and helped her pick them up. "Hey, you okay?" he asked as he helped pick up the books. She looked at him and couldn't find the words to speak, She nodded her head and stood up. "The name is Brady. I noticed you looked lost, so I, uh, figured I would help you out." Brady said putting a hand behind his head looking at her. All she could think about was how perfectly stunning he looked. He was so tall. He had these stunning baby blue eyes. With shaggy, but absolutely adorable brunette hair. This boy's looks were to die for and he was actually talking to her! That's all she could think about, but then she shook her head and realized she had been staring at him for a while. "Huh? Uh yea um I'm a new freshie....I mean freshman! It would be great if you could walk me to class. I mean help me find my class." she stummbled out as her face flushed red from embarrassment. "Hah, alright new freshie. What's your name?" he said slightly laughing at the word freshie. Her face flushed a little bit more as she shakily responded.
"Journey."
"Well, Journey let's go before i and I are a lot later than allowed to be." And with that he walked her to class just to realize he had many of the same classes as her. He even came and found Journey during lunch and she introduced him to Katherine who quickly took a liking to him. Ever since then they had become the inseparable trio. Nothing could break their bond.
Not even realizing Journey had accidentally put herself into tears thinking about it all. Katherine and Journey are Juniors and Brady is a Senior. This would be their very last year together with them all at the high school. Not long her crying was soon interrupted by her friends tackling her with their daily hug.
"Journey!" Katherine and Brady cheered together. Though Brady's face soon turned into a frown as he noticed she had been crying.
"What's wrong Buttercup?" Brady asked Journey trying to cheer her up with his nickname. Journey just smiled and wiped her eyes like it was nothing.
"Just was caught up in thoughts. Nothing too big." She went back into her thoughts of how this was their last year together. She zoned out not noticing her friends were yelling at her to get her attention.
"Journey!" Brady yelled. Journey began crying again looking at her friends. "What's wrong? Tell me please." Brady begged.
"Yeah Journey. What's wrong? You never cry." Said Katherine with a little worry in her voice.
Journey sighed as she looked at her friends. "Well I was just thinking about how this is our last year together. With us all here together. Everything is going to change after this year. Brady, you're going to graduate and go to college. What if I never see you again. Katherine and I have no classes together. I mean it's just I don't want things to change. You two are my best friends and my only friends. I don't want to lose you guys."
Brady gave her a hug after she finished her meltdown and laughed a little.
"Sweetie, you are never going to lose Katherine and I. Yeah, I may be leaving at the end of this year, but it doesn't mean I won't see you again. I am always around Journey. You may not see me, but I'll always be there no matter what. Now come on, dry your tears and let's get to class." Brady said as he gave Journey another quick hug. They walked into the school together and went their separate ways.
Journey continued on with her day. Even though something didn't feel right about today. She couldn't pinpoint what it was, so she just decided to ignore it as she made her way to lunch to sit with Katherine.
"Journey! Hey!" Cheered Katherine from the other side of the cafeteria. Journey made her way over to her normal seat with Katherine and smiled.
"Hey Kat!" Said Journey.
"What was wrong with you this morning? Was it really what you said? You know you don't have to be afraid of losing us right?" Katherine asked. She sounded extremely worried, but who could blame her.
"Yeah I'm fine. Just a little off today I guess. Have you seen Brady? He's usually here before we are. Did I miss something?" Journey questioned Katherine. For some reason, Journey never felt right without Brady. Maybe she was just use to their everyday routine, but today has been weird."You better not be lying to me about being fine. You can always tell me anything. I always have your back. Oh and Brady, he had a surprise football meeting. He said he would try and make it back before lunch was over, but he said he doubted he would be able to." Katherine said.
"Oh yeah. I forgot he was on the football team. My bad." Journey said with a slight chuckle. "And I know you always have my back. I wouldn't lie to you. I promise I am perfectly fine.." Journey said to Katherine. For the rest of lunch they spoke about how their day had been and what all happened. The only thing they didn't talk about was Journey's little feeling of something being off.
After lunch, Journey went to the rest of her classes and continued on with the rest of the day. She still continued to look for Brady throughout the day, but for some reason he just couldn't be found. It upset her to not be able to find him, because she was planning on telling him something. Oh well, she thought as she got on her bus to go home. 'There's always tomorrow.' she thought to herself.
