Anne was combing her messy auburn hair in the upstairs bathroom. Trying to make it look somewhat presentable going to school. Saying Anne disliked her hair was a big understatement, Anne Shirley-Cuthbert hated her hair with a burning passion. Not to mention her diabolical freckles scattered all across her face. If only she could have dazzling hair like her best friend Diana Barry. Her dark hickory curls, olive skin and no freckles. Ugh, Anne couldn't help but feel a bit of jealousy even though she adored Her with all of her heart. She just wanted to be as beautiful as Diana Barry.

"Anne, Gilbert's here to pick you up!" Marilla called from the first floor making the teen slump down the staircase her eyes locking with hazel ones sitting at the kitchen island smiling back at her with loving eyes.

"Hi Gilbert" Anne smiled at him kindly standing in the middle of the staircase as he looked at her in awe. Even though Anne was wearing a baggy hoodie and jeans, Gilbert still looked at her like she was the more precious thing he has ever seen. Marilla noticed and all the had was the biggest smirk on her face while she swept the wooden floors neatly.

"Well you two kids should get going wouldn't want you to be late" Marilla smiled at the two kids holding the broom within her hands.

"Right love you Marilla" Anne was about to reach for the door when Gilbert swooped behind her grabbing the handle

"Thank you Gilbert" Anne nodded with a smile walking outside inhaling the forest pine scent in the air

"You're welcome carrots" Gilbert tipped an invisible hat to the red head making her just roll her eyes

"Could you stop with the nicknames already" Anne scoffed to Gilbert, them already approaching the pathway

"Why" Gilbert gazed at her with his well known smirk

"Because" Anne Shot back

"Why"

"Just because"

"Why carrots?" Gilbert started to laugh

" Cause I don't like it so quit it Blythe!" Anne started walking in front of the curly headed boy making him jog after her

"Hey, Hey Anne" Gilbert softly grabbed a hold of Anne's arm making her stop with an angry glare in her eyes. "I was joking" Gilbert was still smirking at this point which made Anne even more furious. She ripped her arm out of his grip and started to storm off

"I thought we were friends Anne!" Gilbert yelled after her. she stopped dead in her tracks.

"Friends don't make fun of other friend's insecurities Gilbert!" Anne started marching straight towards him "We are certainly not friends Blythe" Anne poking his chest with every single word that slipped out of her mouth.

"Anne please hear me out" Anne was about to turn around when Gilbert gently grabbed her wrist. Making her turn around

"I never should have called you carrots ok? I only called you that because..." Gilbert's voice became quieter.

"Because I find your hair really beautiful Anne" Anne was taken aback by this. No one in her life has ever thought of Anne's hair as even pretty, but beautiful and out of all people to say it Gilbert Blythe. Today was full of surprises indeed.

"I..." Anne was speechless, Gilbert Blythe had made Anne Shirley-Cuthbert speechless.

Anne's stomach was starting to twist and turn making Anne feel something she's never felt before, was she sick?

"School! I almost forgot" Anne quickened up her pace. Gilbert only sighed and followed soon after.
