CALUMS POV
Michael kept fading out. The paramedics rushed him into the ER. I didn't know what to do. I needed to call someone. But he told me not to tell anyone. I sat in a chair in the waiting room for what felt like hours. The doctor came out and told me I could see Mikey.
"Calum, I'm sorry." Was the first thing he said. I felt sorry too, sorry that I didn't notice. I didn't want to say it but I wish it was me instead of him.
"It's fine Mikey but I should tell Abbey and the boys that you're in the hospital."
"NO. Please. I can't let them find out. I'm the only rock in Abbey's life. If she finds out I'm falling apart she'll break. Completely." I've never seen Michael love anyone as much as Abbey. I couldn't fuck that up. I'm screwed.
The doctor came in again and told us that they needed to keep him overnight to monitor him. I ended up staying overnight with him so he wasn't alone.
The next morning I drove Mikey home from the hospital because he couldn't really move his arm or he would rip a stitch. We almost drove all the way home in silence until I decided to ask Michael questions.
"How long have you been doing this?"
"About a week now."
"Why? You seemed so happy."
"I guess I wanted to know if it really took away all the pain."
I pulled into his driveway and felt immediately worse than ever. I was going to have to lie to Abbey and the boys. I was fucked.
As Michael walked through the door Abbey dropped her phone and ran to hug him. She grabbed his arm in the process and he flinched. I flinched too because I knew why he flinched. She pulled away and started asking questions.
"Where were you? You can't just stay out all night and not tell me." I don't think she saw that I was standing there because she looked at me and said, "Oh, hi Calum."
"Hey Abbey." I felt my heart begin to beat faster because I was hiding something from her.
I walked out of their house and bolted to my car. I started it and drove home as fast as I could. But about halfway to my house I took a right instead of a left and drove to Ashton's house.
When I got there I parked my car and ran into his house. I didn't even knock. I just ran. I saw him in the kitchen. He turned around really fast, probably because he thought he was about to get killed by a random dude who just broke into his house.
"Calum?" He just stood there with a blank expression. I didn't stop half running until I collided with him and collapsed in his arms. I just cried. After a few minutes, he started slowly lowering us both to the ground until we were sitting. He brushed his hand through my hair and hugged me as tight as he could.
"What's wrong Calum?" I knew I couldn't tell him. But I had to say something so I just whispered, "I don't want to talk about it." He didn't seem bothered by the fact that I burst through his door and was sobbing in his arms with no explanation. He made me stand up and he walked me into his bedroom and got onto his bed. I sat next to him, still crying and put my head on his shoulder.
"Its gonna be okay, Calum."
