Chapter 1

I sit there waiting for a sign that Katie found my present that I got for her. Before I left her house, I hid a present for her under her pillow as an early birthday gift so she wouldn't expect it.

As I grow impatient, I'm just about to text her to look under her pillow when I get a call from her.

I pick up the phone. "Hello?" I ask even though I well know who it is. I'm greeted with squeals from the other side of the phone.

"OH MY GOD RACHAEL!!! I CAN'T BELIEVE YOU GOT ME 5 SECONDS OF SUMMER TICKETS!"

I grin through the phone. "That's what best friends are for, aren't they?"

"I CAN'T BELIEVE THIS. I'VE ONLY BEEN TRYING TO GET TICKETS FOR LIKE THREE YEARS!"

I hold the phone slightly away from my ear before I become deaf from all her screaming. "Calm down, they're just a boy band."

"JUST A BOY BAND?! THEY'RE NOT EVEN A BOY BAND, THEY'RE FREAKIN' PUNK ROCK. AND THEY'RE NOT JUST A BAND TO ME, THEY'RE MY EVERYTHING!" Katie defensively huffs at me. She pauses for a second before saying to me, "Wait, are you coming too? Because you gave me two tickets."

"No, I'm not going. You know I'm not really into One Direction or 5 S.O.S." I reply.

"Um, did you just say 5 ES-OH-ES?"

"Yeah, why? Isn't that like the abbreviated version or something?"

"Um no it's pronounced 5 sauce. Gosh, no one can ever get it right!"

"Well I told you, I'm not a big fan of them. I'm more into bands like Nirvana and Misfits. You can just take your boyfriend Josh or someone. A concert is an important experience of every relationship."

Katie sighs. "Well I guess you're right. But I still wish it was you that I would be going with."

We both say our goodbyes and hang up the phone.

Throughout the whole day, Katie keeps texting me about how stoked she is to go to the concert and how thankful she is to have a best friend like me. She already phoned Josh asking him to go to the concert with her, which he agreed to.

I make my way over to her house because she really wanted me to help her choose an outfit for the concert.

When I got there, she was already waiting for me at the door. She opened the door before I even rang the bell and gave me a huge hug.

"I still can't believe this is happening! You are literally the best, I don't know what I'd do without you." Katie says in a single breath.

"Hey don't worry about it! You can just pay me back by doing my homework for the rest of the year," I joke.

"Haha really funny. You know I don't even do my own homework," Katie scoffs.

"Okay yeah whatever. Let's just get inside, I think it's about to rain."

We go inside and make our way to her closet.

About 45 minutes later she finally picks out a tank top that says "I wanna be forever young" on it with a red flannel shirt, denim shorts, a bandana, a bracelet with five tally marks on it, I'm guessing for 5 Seconds of Summer, and about a dozen more string bracelets.

"That took long enough," I said. "It's nearly 7 and I'm starving!"

"Well you can raid my pantry or do you want to order out?" she replies.

I chuckle. "That's how I know I chose the right best friend."

We order pizza and Katie doesn't even have to ask for my order, she already knows what I want.

Katie hangs up the phone and says, "They said they'll be here in 15 minutes."

"Good because I'm starving!"

We wait around in the living room waiting for the pizza to get here. When the door bell rings we both jolt up and run to the door. We open the door and a young girl appearing to be in high school opens the door.

"That'll be $13.89," she says.

Katie runs up to get some money while I stand with the front door open waiting for her. I see someone else sitting in the car looking away. He looks like he's trying hard to be avoided so I take a step outside to get a better look of this person's suspicious act.

"Oh my God..." I say at the same time as Katie returns with the money. "Katie, take a look inside the car, who does that look like to you?"

"J-Josh?" She says, choking on her own words.

"Are you gonna buy the pizza or not?" the girl says.

"Who is that in the car?" I ask.

"Um, that's my boyfriend. Now stop being so nosy and pay for what you ordered."

Katie runs to the car and jolts the door open without his consent. "Josh! How could you do this to me?! You said you loved me! What happened to being the only girl in your world?" Right then the pizza delivery girl storms up to the car and pulls Katie away.

"What do you think you're doing?" The girl hisses.

"This is my boyfriend!"

"Um, I don't think so!" She snaps while slamming the car door and driving away.

I stand in the doorway, frozen. Everything happened so quickly and I have no idea what just happened.

Katie runs inside, bawling her eyes out. And that's when I realize: Katie just got cheated on.
