When lance was little he was in a terrible accident that caused him to lose his hearing. His family at the time was poor and could not afford hearing aids, so he used to get bullied a lot as a kid. But as lance grew he learned how read lips and act as if he never lost his hearing. But in space it got harder for him to hide it and someone on the ship found out his secret ,and that lead to the paladins taking care of him.
