Chapter 10
"Ah."
"Ah."
Shizuo paused as he was met face to face with his brother.
"You're free right now, Kasuka?" His brother nodded.
"Where are you going?" Shizuo grunted before responding.
"I'm going over to Mikado's. The stupid flea is harassing him again..." Shizuo's frown deepened as Kasuka stayed silent. "Okay, well I'll see you later." Shizuo waved off his brother and began walking away, but to his surprise he saw that Kasuka had fallen in step right next to him. Shizuo gave him a questioning look in which Kasuka gave him a short response.
"I want to see Mikado too." Shizuo was about to protest, but decided against it. The more the merrier. As they continued their walk, a sudden thought appeared in Shizuo's mind.
"Kasuka...did you...tell Mikado I had him as my home screen?" Kasuka shook his head. As Shizuo was about to speak again, Kasuka interjected.
"I told him he was your lock screen. I didn't know you also him as your home screen as well." Shizuo flushed madly as Kasuka gave him a small smile.
Shizuo didn't speak the rest of the way.
Shizuo frowned as he looked at the time on his phone saying he was later than what he told Mikado. He felt slightly uneasy as he made his way up the creaky steps to Mikado's apartment. He heard something skid as he placed his foot on the last step. He had accidentally kicked something. Kasuka went over and picked up the small object.
It was a cell phone which had a long crack across its screen. Shizuo frowned and hoped the bad feeling he had was due to an upset stomach. He ignored the phone and made his way over to Mikado's front door and knocked. Shizuo's face paled as the door creaked open.
It wasn't locked.
Shizuo shove the door open and scanned the apartment for the bubbly teenager, but found no one. His heart felt heavy in his chest as he ran a hand through his hair. Anger and irritation began to build up in the pit of his stomach.
There's no way—
"He's...gone." Shizuo said breathlessly as if he had just finished running a mile. Kasuka made his way to Shizuo and gave him the clearly damaged phone. Shizuo stared at the phone and wanted to chuck it far away. He wanted Mikado to pop out and say he was just kidding and that it was all just a joke. Sadly, nothing of the sort happened. Shizuo gripped the phone tightly in his hands and tried to regulate his breathing, so he wouldn't go into a rage and destroy Mikado's apartment. He almost crushed the already brittle phone in his hand when it began to ring. He growled at the caller ID and roughly slid his finger across the screen to answer the call, adding another crack to the already falling apart phone.

Izaya hummed pleasantly to himself, pleased at how the events have unfolded. He placed his elbows on his desk, settling further into his swivel chair. He was going to see Mikado today. This somewhat simple thought made his lips break out into a Cheshire grin, but as soon as it appeared, it was gone. A sudden thought nagged at the back of Izaya's mind causing a bad feeling to settle in the pit of his stomach.
Things were going too smoothly.
The usual acts he had to put on to get Mikado alone hadn't had to be put on display. The way the situation was unfolding was too simplistic. A feeling of disdain washed over him as his quickly went through his invisible check list. Everything was somewhat...fine. A frown found a way to his features as he quickly picked up his phone, shooting Mikado a text...well more than one, actually.
