It's Been So Long

Wally grumbled as the pain in his back spread. At his small outburst he heard the surrounding sounds stop. There were others nearby. Why was everything black? Why did his chest burn? He groaned and tried to roll over to get more comfortable; whatever he laid on was firm, too firm. A hand on his upper arm stopped Wally's movements.

"Stay still." A male's voice whispered. It was so familiar. Where had Wally heard the velvety voice before? "I know it's uncomfortable, but you need to stay still while your heart calms down. Keep breathing slowly. That should make it faster."

Wally complied with the unidentified man and took a deep breath in. His chest hurt at the inhale and only got worse as he exhaled. He wished he didn't need to breath.

"Alright. I think you can sit up now." The voice continued. "The worst is over." Wally kept his eyes closed as the man in the room helped him sit up. He could recognize that he was on the wood floor. Must be in my apartment, the speedster thought.

A wet cloth was placed against Wally's forehead. The sensation forced the ginger man to open his eyes and lean into the touch. The first thing he saw were dazzling blue eyes. Their familiarity made Wally's heart push against his already bruised and pained chest. The eyes made him feel something he hadn't felt for as long as he could remember (which consciously wasn't that long for him). The beautiful blues were attached to a handsome face with black, silky hair. The male's nose was cute and yet made him sexy. His lips, plump and pink, made Wally involuntarily lick his own. He's seen all these features before. He's dreamed of them and their owner many nights.

Wally grabbed his head as a pang shot through his temples. He closed his eyes and furrowed into a ball. Everything went black again.

"Wally? Wally, I need you to look at me." There was that voice again. He lifted from his curled position and opened his eyes and sighed. His head didn't hurt anymore.

"Good job, man." Wally turned to face the sound. There he was. Wait...why does he look so young? 13? Wally looked behind the boy and recognized the posters and bookshelf filled to the brim. He couldn't put a name to where he was though. Where was he?

"W-where am I?" The black haired boy with dazzling blue eyes laughed.

"You're at my place, dipshit. You had a panic attack after you saw me get shot by Artemis during training."

"Artemis?"

"Yeah. Man that panic attack must have hit really hard. You should come lay down and rest a bit more."

The boy helped Wally from the dark wooden floor and onto the comfy, master bed just a few feet away. He laid the ginger male down and placed the rage he had against his head before moving the covers onto Wally. He went to walk away, but on instinct, Wally grabbed his arm.

"Wait. Stay with me?" The male couldn't stop his mouth from forming the words.

The blue eyes of the boy sparkled as his cheeks grew red.

"Y-yeah."

Everything faded to black and names, places and people came to his mind. Only one stood out though.

"Dickie?" Wally tried his hardest to identify the male before him as he came to. He would have it all put together, but just as he planned to rejoice in his memories, it all faded and broke into pieces he'd have to search for again.

The man stilled, then lowered the cloth away from Wally's head. His eyes once calming and full of that feeling Wally had been looking for forever, were now wide and filled with anxiety.

"What did you just call me?"

"I- Dickie..." Wally answered. "It's true then. Everything A-artemis and you said. We were friends a-and ..." He was interrupted by a strong embrace. The smell of cinnamon, vanilla and fresh cut grass filled his nose. Wally heard snuffling.

"Are you okay?" The ginger asked. Richard nodded into Wally's shoulder.

"It's been so long since you've called me that."

Wally pulled back. He frowned. "I don't remember much. I don't really know who you are, but I do. I-it's so fucking confusing."

"I know. I know" Dick said, looking into the emerald eyes he fell for so long ago. Wally stared back, being pulled in closer to the man. There was the feeling once again, leaving then reappearing and making his heart beat fast. He leaned in closer to Dick. Their eyes never stopped staring, they never blinked. Dick's nose touched Wally's as the gymnast moved closer. They breathed the same air, comfortably.

"Wally, you're awake thank God!" Artemis's voice erupted through the room. Dick didn't move since Wally hadn't either. Artemis made her way to the room where the two boys were located.

"What's going on here?" At that Wally pushed Dick away and scooted across the room.

"Well?" Artemis sounded pissed.

"Nothing happened." Dick answered, head bowed and heartbroken.

"Didn't look like nothing, Dickwad." She started towards him.

"Leave." Artemis stopped and Dick picked up his head. "B-both of you, leave."

"But baby I-" "LEAVE..." Wally grabbed his head and pressed his back against a nearby counter.

Artemis turned and slowly left, looking back once. Dick stood and paused. He grabbed a piece of paper and pen from his pocket and kneeled down. He rubbed the ginger hair and tried not to take it personally as the man hiding flinched. He sighed and placed the piece of paper next to Wally and made is way out of the apartment.

When the door closed, Wally looked up with tears streaming down his face. He looked over and picked up the paper.
