Chapter 12

"No no no." Yuzu said, panicking

Her face was red from Yuniko comforting her and asking her what's wrong.

Yuzu's face jolted up, looking at the two people who entered.

Grandfather set me up! He didn't tell me that-

The people who entered looked at them.

"Yuzu?" A voice called out.

She didn't want to look.

It was Mei with Udagawa.

She was wearing a black skirt and shirt.

Udagawa scratched the back of his head.

"I certainly didn't expect to run into you, Yuzu." He said, smiling cheerfully.

Yuniko stopped rubbing her back and stood up straight.

"Oh... You know these people?" She asked.

Yuzu could see the look of Yuniko's face which was worried.

"U-um. Yea. That girl is Mei Aihara. She's my step-sister." Yuzu pointed at Mei.

"..." It was silent for a few moments and could feel the tension rising.

Yuzu was about to say something when Mei said:

"What are you doing here, Yuzu?" She stared into Yuzu.

"Um... Ah." Yuzu was fidgeting her fingers.

Yuniko stepped in "She was here to m-" She was cut off when Yuzu grabbed her by the hand and ran out the door.

Sorry, Mei.

Yuzu was out in the parking lot with Yuniko.

She panted and looked over at Yuniko.

"What... Was... That... For?" Yuniko asked, panting.

"Sorry.. I just didn't want to face her."

"Oh.."

There was a silent moment when Yuniko spoke up again.

"Let's go, shall we?"

Both were walking down the sidewalks, nobody around and barely cars.

"It's really dead here, isn't it?" Yuzu said.

"Yes... It is."

Yuniko stopped in her tracks and looked at Yuzu.

"This is my stop now. Somebody'll pick me up." She looked awfully sad to Yuzu.

"I'll see you later, alright Yuniko?"

Her eyes lit up with excitement.

"Really?"

Yuzu nodded "Yeah."

A car parked on its side and had the door open for Yuniko to get in.

She waved and got in the car.

"Haa.. She was so kind and funny!" Yuzu threw her head back on the bus.

Yuzu expected it to be far worse but it was really fun.

She wanted to see her again.

Mei...

Dammit Yuzu thought.

Why'd Mei pop into her head?

Once she got home, she plopped down on here bed.

Yuzu remembered the look on Mei's face when she grabbed Yuniko's hand and ran off.

A hurtful expression.

It's a side Yuzu hasn't even seen before.

Yuzu hugged the pillow and shook the thoughts out of her head.

It's her imagination. Mei saw them as sisters. Step-sisters.

Mei's POV

"Mei, what's wrong?" Udagawa asked.

I shook my head.

"Nothing." And I continued eating.

There was silence between me and Udagawa.

"You sure? I-"

"I'm fine, Udagawa!" I paused for a second and went on "Thank you for concerning about me."

Udagawa looked worried but continued eating.

"It was quite the surprise to see Yuzu here with that lady." He said, chewing some rice.

I gazed over to a table with roses in a vase.

In the bottom of the vase had two rings with some paper behind the rings that had said "I love you!"
