He refused to talk.....

Arrested and charged with the murder of a young eighteen year old highschool graduate. The only evidence they had against him was the blood stained knife he pulled from the boy.

"Mr Jacob Soame, you were found at the crime scene of the murder with a pocket knife coated with blood. It has then been concluded that you are responsible for the murder of 18 year old Alvin John.
Guilty or not guilty?"The judge asked.

Silence.....

Loud silence, except for the occasional sniffling from the deceased's mother.Everyone was staring at the black haired tall and attractive faced man that stood in the cubicle.

" Mr Soame,If you do not speak within five minutes,I will be inclined to pronounce you guilty for the charge you are accused of.

He just stared. Not admiring staring or stunned staring.

Just staring.

"Your five minutes starts now!"
The scowling judge announced.

Still staring.....

The silence changed to chaotic murmuring.

"I'm so sorry..... very sorry for coming this late"A soprano pitched female voice rung through the courtroom.

Everybody turned.
And.
Everybody stared.

She was beautiful; not the silent beauty that you see in people's eyes after you look at them....no, not those ones.

She was the type of beautiful that screamed beautiful.

The type which one glance wasn't enough you had to watch again and again to be sure she was a living creature.

And she was a lawyer.

Oblivious of the silence that surrounded her she continued talking.
" I am so sorry am late,I had to get the autopsy report since the doctor said my client was still in shock and is in no position to talk."

"Miss Benson would you please enlighten us a bit about your poor arrival to the court since we can hardly make out any sensible conclusion from your blabber."The judge knowing her name due to the fact that she was the most sought after public lawyer in the city asked.

The fair redhead looked around and now realized the gravity of the situation.
"My lord..." She bowed

"I believe my entrance here is very delayed as a verdict could have been made before my arrival but I can duly say it was worth it since I gained perfect evidence perusing my stand in this court."

"Go ahead" the judge muttered.

"My lord, my client Mr Jacob Soame , was arrested and charged with murder on the basis of being caught with a blood stained knife at the murder scene." She took a deep breath and continued talking.

"My lord, every since the incident he has refused to utter anything above a few syllables ,I therefore took it upon myself to make him undergo an intensive doctor's examination which resulted in the conclusion that my client was is in a state of high shock and hence is in no position to speak to others.

With another deep breath,she continued,"
Prior to that, I summoned for an autopsy to be performed on the deceased alongside a forensic examination. The investigation concluded that the wound caused by the knife was made a few days before my client found the body. Apparently the knife was still in the body of the victim after he was killed. My client was only caught in the act of removing the knife from the body hence a case of mistakenly concluding him as the murderer"
"This is the evidence of the autopsy as well as the investigators report "She continued while placing the documents on the judges desk.

" Miss Benson"The opposition called,"With the evidence you are putting forward I believe your client is not guilty of the charge as accused, but in realistic human terms when a person comes across a dead body, the first emotion is panic before calling an ambulance or police.I therefore cannot understand why he first reaction to the murdered person was to pull the knife out of his body.Hence, I believe that your client here is either guilty of the charge or per his reaction to the body he has a fair knowledge of the death of this boy."

She looked bewildered and annoyed as to how come a lawyer can base his opposition on simple reactions and emotions.

Her red hair seemed fiery as she addressed the blond haired handsome but ignorant opposition lawyer, smiling sarcastically she asked "your honour,
my opposition seems to know a lot about human emotions and reactions in response to situations, is he by any means a phycologist alongside his practice as a lawyer?, Anyway, before I accept this notion I would request for a legal medical examination for my client alongside a report on the normal human reactions in various situation by a renowned phycologists to prove that my client's response to that murder was unusual and requires scrutiny."

The courtroom became noisy with murmurings and chatter.

"Order in the court!" the judge bellowed.

"From the evidence provided," he continued, "I conclude that the suspect is not guilty as charged, however, the a conclusion will not be made until the client has recovered from shock and is able to recount the series of events that occurred and relationship he has with the
deceased. Hence he has been granted bail till he recovers from the loss of speech,
the court has been adjourned to the thirty_first of next month."

"Court rise!"

After the judge left, Jacob was escorted out of the box and granted bail. She saw him going outside and called out running towards him.
"Mr Soame!" He turned and frowned.
She continued " I know you are not in a position to talk but I just want you to listen. You are not allowed to go outside of this town until you are declared totally not guilty of the charge, you have a meeting with the phycologist tomorrow after which I will meet you."

He kept staring.

"Who are you?" He asked.

Taken aback, she hadn't expectedly any response.

"Rebecca",she replied staring.
" Rebecca Benson, your lawyer."

" Well Rebecca",He blinked running his hand through his hair like he was some what irritated and continued speaking, "I never asked for a lawyer or even spoke to anyone so just stay out if my business, if you know what is good for your beautiful face." He smirked, walking away leaving her astounded as to how he was so rude with a mouth that had spoken barely two words eversince he was arrested or rather as to how ruggedly handsome he looked when he smirked.

"I volunteered" she shouted at his back and continued,
"And let me make this clear to you Mr Soame , If you dare lift a foot out of this town you will regret it with every vien in that rude body of yours"

"Is that a threat?"

He asked, not even turning to face her.

"And make sure you meet the doctor" She said, while smiling and totally ignoring his question.

"Have a nice day!" and she walked away.
