i woke up in pain. again.

i sat up and leaned against the wall. when my eyes had finally adjusted to the dark but still slightly light room i realised i was not in my room.

i looked around; there were cupboards, bottles, needles.

i was in a hospital.

i moved myself so that my legs were dangling off the side of the bed, after a few minutes of just sitting and thinking i finally stood up.

i yelped in pain and immediately flopped back down on the bed.

my left leg felt like there was multiple knives sticking into it. i looked down and saw that my leg was sort of mangled. i laid back down on the bed and flopped my arm off the side. i immediately felt something hard and metal on my hand.

i turned my head and tried to see what it was.

aha!

it was a crutch.

it was a singular crutch, but it was better than nothing.

i picked the crutch up and once again, attempted to get up; this time with extra support from the crutch.

my leg still ached and i still groaned with every step i took, but i was moving and that was what mattered.

i hobbled out of the room and entered a long hallway, it was dark and kind of eerie but it didn't look like one of those over-done, trying to be scary hallways. it was just a normal hallway. no flickering lights, no loud creepy noises, nothing.

no one seemed to be around, but there must be at least someone here, right? this is a hospital, for gods sake.

i can't remember anything from yesterday. maybe i got knocked out. maybe i passed out. or maybe it was just a simple accident, and that's why i'm here.

finally, i see someone. i stumble closer and closer. when i get close enough, i realise they are not human. they look like a deer and are wearing a cloak.

i slowly back away. suddenly, the creatures head quickly turned to me and i flinched a little bit.

it starts walking towards me and i begin walking faster and faster.

then i feel 4 long claw-like fingers lay on my shoulder. i freeze and begin to tremble in fear. the creature says in this low, raspy voice;

"it's okay, i am not going to hurt you."

i turn around to face it.

"what are you?", i ask, my voice shaky.

the creature seems to look offended, and i suddenly feel the need to apologise.

it opens its mouth and says,

"i am the deer lord," its voice still low, "i am not evil. i promise you, i am not evil."

it repeats this 3 times, when i finally blurt out,

"i get it. you're not evil."

the creature smiles, however i am unable to see his eyes. they are bandaged up with black cloth.

"why are your eyes bandaged up?" i ask out of curiosity.

"they intimidate people." they say "i can show you, but please do not be afraid."

i nodded.

he moves his hands to the back of his head and slowly unties the bandage. when it's finally untied, he pulls it away from his eyes.

i look up at his face and see these black eyes with shapes in them, but the shapes are changing rapidly. i noticed a heart and a square and a circle, it's quite beautiful, but i see what he means by it can be intimidating.

i stare for a little bit. when i realise this, i quickly look down in embarrassment.

the deer giggles, and i giggle with him.

"i like them." i say as he ties his bandage back around his eyes.

"but, how do you see?"

"my eyes are more powerful than you think. i can see through this cloth like it's nothing." he replies.

i nod, showing i understand.

he tells me i look tired, and frankly, i am.

"maybe you should get some rest." he suggests.

"the bed i slept in was incredibly uncomfortable. i won't be able to sleep in it." i reply.

he nods, "hospital beds are always uncomfortable. but, i know one that is amazingly comfy. follow me."

and with that, i followed some deer creature into a room with a comfy bed.

he gestures for me to get in, and i do so.

i put my crutch by the side of the bed. he was right. this bed was really comfy. compared to the one i woke up in, this was luxury.

the deer walked out with a goodnight, and within minutes,

i was asleep.
