Opalescent (Backstory)

Truth

After a long day Sky and Opal had went back the apartments to sit on the roof. Sky had grabbed some snacks as Opal sat down facing the sunset gripping her 4K. Sky had grabbed Opal's tense hands, "Stop trying to play with your toy when you feel a certain way but instead talk about what's up." Opal looked at Sky uncertain but she let go of the heavy weapon and sat down next to her. "Wanna chip?" Sky said teasingly. Opal shook her head declining the offer but Sky forced a chip into her mouth causing her to choke. Opal smacked Sky's arm, "Ow!!" she giggled. Sky smacked her arm back. Opal smiled slightly as Sky giggled at her. Sky notices Opal's expression and smiles, "You smiled!!" Opal looks back at Sky confused. "No I didn't!" Sky laughs anyway at Opal's response. Opal blushes a little bit as she ignores Sky's laughing embarrassed. Sky's laughing comes to an end as she eats another chip and then looks back at Opal. "Is there anything that's been bothering you?" Opal nods slightly as she looks back Sky. "Just stuff that happened a long time ago when I was younger." "Like what?" Sky asked concerned. "Just a few friends..." Sky looks at Opal confused but still listening. "A long time ago, a few of my friends had brought an Octoling into Inkopolis from the sewers which wasn't allowed then. One of them didn't want me to be upset until she had showed me. She didn't care that I literally lost family to their kind, and she acted as if I never told her about what happened. When I got mad at them for defending the Octoling they kept saying I was in the wrong. It wouldn't matter if she was being controlled, it was the fact that she might've killed my grandfather and that's what I wanted to know. We ended up getting into a physical fight and I haven't talked to them since. They kept coming back to my house since the incident a few times but after a while without an answer we all stopped communicating. I pretty much cut her off and I never want to see any of their faces again." Sky looked at Opal glumly, "That must've been hard. You should talk to them again if you ever find them or run into them Opal. "No thanks." "No, I'm serious. You have a lot on your plate, you might as well start eating at it right?" Opal looked at her puzzled, "What?" Sky shakes her head, "Nevermind, bad example." Opal shivered at the thought of talking to her childhood friends. "I don't think I should do it, I think it's just better if we leave each other be." "Do it Opal. I'll find them on the internet if I have to." Opal looks at her irritated. "Fine! Whatever!" she shouts in response. "Good." Sky says smiling at her. "You're the one who'll be looking for them though, I'm not gonna look for people who I don't even wanna see idiot." Sky pouts, "Fine! I'll do it all by myself and I'll find them quick!" she says with confidence. Opal sighs still uneasy about the idea but she knew that there wasn't any turning back now that Sky knows.

Sky spent the rest of day asking around for Opal's friends but as the day went on she never found any of them. She ended up in a mall food court after being pointed in so many directions. "I don't think I'll ever find them." she says sighing as she takes another sip of her soda. Just as she sits her cup down she feels a small tap on her shoulder from behind. She looks up to see an Inkling with brown eyes, medium lengthed blue hair, and a small piercing on their left ear. "People kept telling me some random Octoling was looking for me, and you're really the only one here." Sky hops out of her seat excited, "Do you know somebody named Opal?" The Inkling nodded slightly, "Yeahh? Why? I haven't talked to Opal in forever..." Sky jumps around, "I told her I would find you! In your face Opal!!!" she says having a mini celebration on the middle of the food court. "Are you okay?" the Inkling asked as she stared at Sky awkwardly. "Hehe yeah." she responds blushing a little embarrassed. "Anyway, what's your name?" "Cassie... But why does Opal want to see me after all of these years? I thought she hated me." Sky smiles, "I forced her to have a chat with you and talk things out. Let's just say I'm her companion, or partner in crime." Sky says as she slides imaginary shades down over her face with a smirk. "Okay then..." Cassie said a little weirded out by Sky. "Anyways, let's go." Sky said as she grabbed her cup and pulled Cassie along with her.

Sky had made it back to the apartment roof with Cassie close behind her. She peeked through to see Opal sitting there quietly looking off into the distance as the sky turned purple. "Opal?" Sky said waiting for an answer. "What?" she said without turning towards her. Sky could see the reflection of Opal's blue eyes on her 4K sitting next to her and she frowned slightly. "I brought somebody here to see you." Cassie walked towards Opal and crouched down next to her. She placed her hands on Opal's face turning her so that they were looking into each other's eyes. Cassie looked at Opal's scar on her cheek from where she'd hurt her long ago as tears formed in her eyes. Opal had stared blankly at Cassie's face as her face turned red. "I'm so sorry Opal. I never meant to hurt you! I didn't consider your feelings or what would happen! I just want you to know how sorry I am!! I was such an idiot and-!!" Opal had placed her hand over Cassie's mouth tired from all of her chatting. "It's fine, I don't really care anymore..." she lied. "Yes you do, your eyes are still blue." "I was just worried that I had hurt your feelings when I got mad at that Octoling. You, Kai, and Bella were all upset at me so I felt betrayed. I didn't want to talk to you guys again because I thought that it would make matters worse." Opal said turning away. Cassie squeezed Opal in her arms. "You could never hurt me or leave me upset at you for forever silly." Cassie said smiling. Opal felt warm inside and slowly hugged Cassie back.

As the rest of the night went on, Sky had left the two of them to be together alone and talk. She felt happy that she could fix at least fix one of Opal's many problems. She had went back to the apartment room and felt asleep dreaming of being with somebody special to her. ♡
